defining a style....

I thought we could have some fun today and get your creative juices flowing. Most of you have seen most of the pics of my home. I've shown you the boys room, Lola's room, the master, and etc. etc. The pic above is from the sitting room in my master. What you are going to see in the next pictures are from my dining and living room. These are the two rooms we live in, really. ....

Anyways, this is where I thought you could have some fun. I need help in defining my style. I tend to call my style "cottage", but I would love to hear what you come up with. Take a look at the photo's, feel free to look at some of my back posts on rooms here, and here.

And.....if you even think of calling it "shabby chic" , you will automatically be disqualified! {seriously}.

So come on in..... and let's see what you come up with!!!
{there might even be a prize...}

xoxo

Kasey Chic, Old Meets New

Your house is gorgeous!! What about "Paris Flea Market Chic"~

*The Beautiful Life* said...

I dunno, Kasey, I'm thinkin' "cottage" is it...And that's a good thing! Its very breezy, "up" yet soothing; doesn't take itself too seriously and "feet up on the table or couch" is permitted if not welcomed... A vacation home that IS home. Cottage it is.

Hhhmmmm..I would say.. I agree with Tara! You are too cool for cottage! Or I would call it Paris boutique chic! :)

Tracy ~Seeking Refinement~ said...

What about Flea Market Fancy - without being pretentious - or stuffy....definitely not. There is nothing "shabby" about your style - it is a place where kids can be comfortable, but where they will still learn to mind their "p's and q's". Love everything about it!

What style you do have - and I would hope you never 'stop' - because it is so inspiring to me!

Penny from Enjoying The Simple Things said...

I'm going with Paris Apartment meets Cottage....with a little Bohemian thrown in for good measure.

Zita - Mlle Magpie said...

Love your style, Kasey. I'm thinking "Frenchie Cottage Style". Yeah, something like that....

Sa-Sea said...

How about just calling it "AMAZING!". No other names needed! I LOVE IT! You have just made my final decision FOR me that I AM painting my kitchen table. Your style and your house makes me so happy! It really looks like a place you can just sit down and look around without a tv or anything! just "amazing!"

There are already some great suggestions ... I just keeping thinking "French chic". It's very romantic but non-fussy. And absolutely beautiful!

How about just freakin' awesome? I am still speechless those pictures are so great that i want to move in. I would kind of say one of these:

shabby paris farmhouse
or
shabby french farmhouse

but now i'm disqualified for saying shabby... so how about:

vintage french cottage
or
Parisienne Farmhouse
or
French Flea Market Chic
or
Shabby French cottage
oops, I did it again.

Can you tell I used to be in marketing???

Kari said...

I love this post... I'm going to dream up the perfect name for this while I take a nap... BBL.

I'm going with Cottage Electic or Urban Cottage (cottage-y, but not really country) - that's all I got right now...I still can't think straight after this weekend - so tired!

Classic French Cottage Chic. That's what comes to mind first!

I love all of your pictures! When I see them it makes me "feel" Serene, feminine, elegant, classic, a little worn,...what comes to my mind is...Timeless Chic. That is what I see...breathtakingly beautiful!!!! Thank you for sharing and letting us share our thoughts as well.

Hugs,
~Victoria~

Katy said...

Well it's super beautiful whatever you call it! I love the simple, pure, fresh colors and the wide variety of unique items...especially that scale you have on your buffet! Hmmm...there's some great names but I'm going to call it "Sundry Innocence." ~ Blessings, Katy

The Little Red Shop said...

Hmm..this is something I've been thinking about quite a bit lately, in regard to my own style. It's a little different than yours. For you, I keep thinking, "Wind and Willows..." With your cool winter colors, I can just picture a light snow stirring up, dusting your decor with a layer of fluffy, sparkly snowflakes. At the same time, your interiors are warm and cozy, fairy tale-like. Little birdies and butterflies should be fluttering around your home... How about, "Whispering Wind and Willows?"....or, "Snow White?"...wa ha!

How about Romantic Cottage Chic? Vintage French Cottage? It's soft, romantic, vintage, simple, yet all about the details. Beautiful.
That's what it is.
:)

Anonymous said...

Oh I think vintage bliss would do just fine to describe!! I love the bird houses on your chest of drawers:) I am such a neutral palette girl anyway. I could just get lost and carried away in your home! I love it, it looks so calm and inviting.

The Flying Bee said...

Okay. I think I've got it. Earthy-Vintage Euro-Ecclectic Cottage Chic. That's exactly the way I would describe your style!

america blasco said...

oh my goodness kasey, you live in a dream!! so beautiful; thank you for sharing! I think as an artist and designer we are always evolving within our own style(s). some transcend others, but if I were to define it, I would say: alice in wonderland meets french provincial meets detail oriented, delectable genius. it's undeniable! well done!

Tiffany said...

Oh my gosh! Your place is BEAUTIFUL! I'm thinking you should call it fantasy cottage or doll house chic. Something about it seems almost impossible, like living in a dream. :)

paige said...

ok....
how 'bout "elegant farmhouse"
( but i'm also thinking treetop cottage )
i'm also going to throw out..."paige's favorite style minus the much needed seashells" or "my most coveted dreamy style"

Sadie Olive said...

I would go with "Bohemian Naturalist". I think Bohemian covers the cottage feel without being so obvious. And the Naturalist part covers your love for birds, nests, and nature. :)

It looks like you shop at Marshall's department store. I see a lot of this kind of decor there.

My first thought was French Vintage Romance.... Whatever you decide fits you best i love it, somethings can't even be put in a catagory.. they are just lovely, just because!

I love your style and would call it cottage chic....very stylish....chic edge to it.....

Chablis said...

I'm speechless! Your dining room is absolutely gorgeous...too pretty to touch...almost! There is something that is so "honest" and "natural" about your house. Almost like it was grown in a garden. But it is very clean, crisp, and modern. I'm totally rambling!

I would call your style, "Charmed Antique" hmmm, that's not really doing it for me. Maybe, "Antiqued Charm". I don't know, I'm not very good at this. All I know is it's all very charming!!!

Zita - Mlle Magpie said...

OK, I'm back. Frenchie Cottage Chic!

Alyssa said...

I would have to say 'cottage romantic' - so lovely!

Beki - TheRustedChain said...

I intentionally didn't look at the other responses so forgive me if I'm repeating someone else. :)

I think your style is "romantic French cottage".

and it's LOVELY!

I was thinking "Paris apartment" but changed my mind to Eclectic Parisian !!!!! I just love the Paris Hotel sign in your home!!!!! Sara

Anonymous said...

The whole cottage word has been a little over used, and you are too unique for that. Shabby you definitely aren't! And, you are a little bit Parisienne and Swedish, so to pick one of those words would be too defining. I'm going to go with "Comfortable Elegance." Comfortable to compliment the relaxed, homey, inviting feeling your decorating always exudes. And elegance to capture the utter stylishness of all that you do. So there you go...

Hey there,

I must say, I love everything about your nest. It just gives me such a serene feeling inside! I am thinking that it looks like Pastoral Parisian with a side of serenity! Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Kasey :)

I would call it 'Vintage Elegance'. I thought of 'cozy cottage', but it's more upscale than that :)

Your house is very similar to mine and I consider mine a "collected look" - "eclectic vintage". I am a fan of your blog - stop by mine when you have a moment!

koralee said...

let's see...how about cottage grandeur with a layer of whimsy...i love your minimal color palette which is pure and simple yet your collections add another layer that make your rooms all your own!!! Your home is beautiful...i love every element!!

Wendy said...

Okay, I really like the first response..."Kasey Chic". But, I think I'd go for something along the lines of what Kari at Reese & Marie defines her style as..."Urban farmhouse with a French twist". Yeah, that fits, doesn't it?

By the way, I love the birdie chandie!! So sweet.

okay, I've thought about this all day. I really wanted to come up with something clever. Do you know what I've come up with, nothing. My creativity must be in an intermission. :( But I LOVE it all just the same!

I'd have to say "Romantic French Cottage" but that is just so uncreative... =)

Your decorating style is - Lola cottage chic!

Hi Kasey. I think it is Romantic Cottage or maybe even Rustic Elegance. A room where a man feels at home and the woman say ahhhhh...

My first, and favorite, thing I noticed was the use of the nests, eggs, and cloches. I am in love with this look right now. I'd call it Garden Mod, Garden Posh, or Garden Vintage. Love it.

I like what Wendy said about what R & M calls theirs.

it's cottagy and romantic but yours is even a little more refined than that and exclusive.

Hi, I would say you're a combination of French Eclectic & Cottage Chic.

"French Eclectic somehow manages to be both formal and casual, classy and unassuming at the same time. You like your spaces to feel inviting from the moment you (or your guest) opens the front door and this feeling should continue even after you've entered your most formal room. Even though there are French antiques here and gold details there, the rustic country elements provide a balance and warmth that seems to say, "come in, relax and stay a while." Your love of antiques leads you to flea markets, garage sales and hours of eBay hunting."

Try out www.sproost.com.

Hello friend ~ I missed you while I was gone! I love the green chair in your sitting room. I think there are some pretty decent suggestions for your style! I just bought a special edition Cottage magazine and there were so many different examples of what cottage can be. You have a nice mix of many of the styles and it is always brilliant.

I see you have almost everything painted white, why not call it "Cottage Cheese", just kidding. Your cottage is so lovely, you do have a lot of things that are so pretty, nice job decoratin it.

If I could only jump right into one of those photos and stay a while...I think your style is so Traditionally Vintage Chic...I'm starting a slow transformation to my own home...I just love the look and feel you get when you see these colors and treasures together. Cheers!

Okay, this is mine without reading anyone else's response so I don't know if it's a duplicate... French Farmhouse

Now, about that sofa, care to share the info with me before I run out and buy this sofa? Friend?

"Vintage Nesting" because your style lends a hand to vintage things and nesting because of the nests, bird houses and birds. Also because nesting is motherly and makes me think of family. Too literal?? No matter what your "style" is called it is beautiful. Where are the curtains in your sun room from?
