love affair.....

I love coming up with post titles.....the edgier the better.....and i know what you were thinking the minute i mentioned love affair.....and with a picture of my bedroom........but....here you are......and since you're already here........this is my bedroom....as you can see on the walls....i have sheet music that hangs all over. Different...i know....not the norm....i know......but i love sheet music....the older the better...{so cliche..}

just like wine........o.k......STOP!!! ....sorry.

wow....don't know how this picture got here.....i mean....it's my bedroom........a room i share with my husband........

but i guess my mind was on Mathew for a minute........{so random....so just don't mention it to Bryan}.

whew.

Alright....where was I??? ...oh......my bedroom.

anyways.....when I was in Spokane, i mentioned that we ate at the most fabulous restaurant called Chaps, and on Chaps walls were what i have been dreaming about doing to my own bedroom walls but yet so nervous to do so.......

take a peek and enlarge the pics so you can see the details......

I of course wouldn't have the pics of horses and the roses wallpaper....but i love.love how they just decoupaged all the sheet music and sheets of vintage poetry pages right to the wall so it looks like wallpaper...

that black frame is from ikea.....and could so easily be painted. So what do you think........remember...i won't have horses on my walls.....but i would love some opinions......yes...or ...no.....or maybe so........

I could have it done in a week.....especially since my little {big} guy is in Florida this week and will be flying home by himself .......but that's a whole other issue....so let's not go there....

{thank you camp whimsy for letting me use your photo!}
and my friend Katie has an AWESOME giveaway HERE....

Hi Kasey!
Okay, for a split second, I did actually think that gorgeous man was your husband.....and not Matthew!!LOL
Great photos - love your bed and the walls at Chaps....not too keen on the black Ikea frames but LOVE the way they have done the walls.
Happy Monday!

I believe that you could have it done in a week! You move fast! I think it goes with your style and You know you will love it. You could have your letters say something like "love shack" (I hope you know I'm NOT serious about the love shack part-)

I absolutely love it... I once decoupaged my closet doors with pages from an old shakespeare book and it looked awesome and it was seriously easy... go for it... btw, the room already look great with the pages just hanging too.

I think you should do it Kasey - it would look wonderful, xv.

What a wonderful idea!!! I love old sheet music ... the yellower and smudged the better ;-)
Say hello to Matthew for me ...

Well...you've hit on a dream of my own... decoupaging sheet music, vintage ledger sheets, etc. to my walls...

However...

Here's where I always hit a wall (pardon the pun): like you, having a vintage home makes you think twice about some things... like totally covering the plaster walls with stuff -- textural stuff -- that can't just be painted over.

So when down the road, I or future buyers of our historic place, no longer wants decoupaged walls, then what???

That's why I've so far never done it. Dumb reason, I know...

Hey, I know! YOU do it and let me know how it goes! Yeah, that's real nice... ;)

Anyway, I vote "go for it". Later if you have to remove it all, well, maybe all of us blogging friends who told you to "go for it" can fly in to help with the process. :)

Good luck!

Ruth

I definitely think that's a go! It would look fabulous... and as I will have a new bedroom to decorate shortly... and just bought my first vintage book of wedding sheet music from my local thrift store for 99c (which I had no clue what to do with) I might just join you...!

I love what they did with the walls, very charming! I have to admit though, I love the way some of your sheets are kind of loose and look like they could be falling off the wall with the passing of time. If it were "me" (and you did ask for opinions right?) I would decoupage them on and then hang a few all haphazard like on top of those. (totally had to look that up to make sure it was a real word..it is!) Overall, love the look. Go for it and take lots of pics!

p.s I actually thought that was your husband in the pic - I was like; "wow...decorating would be the last thing on my mind!" xoxo

that Chaps was so inspiring!!!

What a cool IDEA!

Here's what I want to say though:

How long do you plan on living in your home? Would you want to put those beautiful sheets of music on walls that you can't take with you?

Maybe you could decoupage the sheets of music in large frames and hang them close together. Therefore, being able to take them with you just incase!

I love that idea! I think they look cute just hanging there as well! Good Luck, can't wait to see what you do with it!

I love the idea but not the way it would be so permanent. So could you use that ticky-tac stuff to put it up? I hope that's not too tacky, ha-ha! I saw a beautiful frame with sheet music as the back ground and a small bird's nest with eggs in it. It was so vintage looking to me.

Faded Plains said...

I think it would look great on one wall...like the one your bed is on...it would be a great backdrop, and since you have a large headboard, it wouldn't be like BAM in your face...just a beautiful accent wall. By the way, I've done this to the backs of some of my bookcase shelves it looked great...let us know what you decide...and just have fun!

Love this!

Oh my goodness, what fun! :) And I'm positive your little one had an incredible time in Florida with Grandpa!

I adore this idea! I say go for it!

BTW...I have those black framed letters and mine also spell Welcome.

Have FUN !

Farmgirl Paints said...

Yep I love it. I'm for anything decoupaged. It would tie your room's look together better than the random sheets here and there. Go for it!

Oh and thank you for the Matthew pic. He is just too cute!!

Kari said...

I love the idea. What about doing one wall and leaving the other walls the way you have them now, with sheet music here and there? That way if you hate it in a year, you won't have to redo the whole room. But I have a feeling you won't hate it. I wouldn't... it's amazing. I LOVE restaurants like that and am so jealous... any more pics you can share? And by the way it looks like you had such a great time. So sad I wasn't there too!

Kari said...

BTW, the black ikea frames are FAB! Makes we want to run and get some now!!!

Tara said...

Love this idea Kasey!! go for it!! :) Hope you had a good weekend with Mathew, whoops I mean Bryan!

Laura said...

We are so much a like! I can't believe that you have sheet music all over your room, because I happen to have a ton of sheet all over my house!

Decor To Adore said...

You could always start with a closet...

I painted the frame from Ikea. It is in my greatest hits section of the ole blog on the right hand side.

Jackie said...

Just do it! I'm sure Matthew, oh, I mean Bryan will love it! The frame idea is great and how much do I love that chair you have?

Rue said...

See... this is where I get uneasy.. I would say go for it, but then I think about you having to deal with it if you move. I painted a couple of ceilings in my old house and the future buyers threw a fit over just that.

If you could somehow nail thin boards onto the walls and put them on those, you could eaily take them with you and it would be easy to remove.

I know... I'm such a fuddy duddy... LOL

paperbird said...

Kasey that would look awesome. You could even paint in random areas over the paper and sand down so that some of the paper peaks out from the paint. I have done that on collages and it is a way cool look. I know that whatever you do it will look great

Kim G. said...

Definitely go for it!!! I loved the entryway at Chaps. I am planning on doing the small wall in my entry way, not quite brave enought to do a whole room just yet! Can't wait to see how it turns out!!!

Lou Cinda @ Tattered Hydrangeas said...

I think it is beautiful! I might would paint the frames a pretty creamy color ~ more vintage! I like the idea of framing the sheet music too.

I love this and can't wait to see what you do!

do it, for sure - will keep you busy in anticipation of the little guy flying home solo - and it will look oh so Kasey-chic.

do it! wish I was a drive away to come and help out! (or at least keep our wine glasses filled while I watch you work.....)

Love the chair in the corner surrounded by books and sheet music. It just makes me want to grab a cup of tea and make myself at home!

Janelle said...

I think you could pull off that style. Go for it and don't forget to show us when you're done!!!

I can't say I would like it in my room, for me it looks to busy on the walls. On another note, I was in Ah! when I saw the picture of the head of the horse in the black ikea frame. For a second there, it look so much like the one my father had painted and given to my son when my father past away a few years ago. by the way, my son still has the picture in his room.

I think it would lokk great -- I saw the same idea in a PB catalog awhile ago, but with business cards in an office - loved it!
Good Luck {& post the after pic.'s:)}!

Chablis said...

Oh yeah. don't even stop to think...just do it! That mirror looks so much more sophisticated than Ikea. Good find!

Leah C said...

I think the decoupaged wall idea is lovely; but, perhaps only on one wall...the look might be "too busy" for all the walls:) I'm sure, though, whatever you choose, it will be lovely!

Fun idea! I'd do one wall as an accent wall. Either behind the headboard or by the t.v. I'm sure whatever you do will look fabulous. Oh, and thanks for the brilliant pic of Matthew. Such a beautiful sight.♥♥♥ You made my day a little sweeter.♥

My instant reaction was YES! So, I say I understand the hesitation but YES do it! It will look amazing. Love affair, love that title but if this post is about a love affair why does Matthew have his shirt on....hmmmm.
Love the idea, love the post, and love Matthew. Yum.

I say absolutely do it! I did this to one wall in our first place and absolutely loved it. I have been wanting to re-create it here but knowing that we want to move this year has me on hold until we plant our roots elsewhere. you won't regret it!

Love it! I wish I was as stylish as you and could pull this off at my house. Also, if you have time, did you paint the tv stand in your room? I just painted a desk at my house that I wanted to turn out this way, and it doesn't look right. Any chance I can talk you into a blog post on how to refinish furniture in this style? What am I doing wrong?

Kasey said...

I have a friend who did this in her study and it's beautiful!

Absolutely love your site and your store! So charming! I LOVE the sheet music idea...in fact it is giving me ideas. A antique mall going out of business around here has PILES of old sheet music for 25
cents each. I am thinking I need to make a run soon!

Well you already know I love the idea, but it looks like everyone else is giving you the thumbs up too! I have extra pages from an old French play (dated 1858)you could have if you're interested in adding something a little different to the mix (it's in French of course). Can't wait to see how it turns out:)

Being a collector of vintage sheet music, I just can't pull myself to use it very frequently - it's safeguarded near my guitar - however, if you have the 'guts' I would totally do it - I have an inspiration board I have done that to by photocopying the music first, and love it.
but you could easily hang the music from thin wire as an alternative.

pk said...

Oh yes yes yes. Absolutely, very different, and what wallpaper would you use behind yours ? I am a friend of Trish and found your site there. Happy to say ! Enjoy your music too. God bless.

I have a post about my trip to the flea market on Friday. When I saw the bathroom at my little surprise visit to a sweet shop, I thought of you. They used old books and music in the decor. The wall wasn't covered but mixed in here and there with plaster around it.
