going the exrta mile....

My hubby thinks that i spend my days blogging rather than playing with my children.....and i said....who plays with their children? ....i mean really....the last time i counted....i only had 3........and 3 turns into 4.....turns into 5 and so on and so on...you get the picture......these children's mothers aren't playing with them...{duh} .....they sent them to my home....... I guess i shouldn't complain....i always wanted the house where everyone ends up......but i didn't realize that the "everybody" would be boys........lots and lots of boys....
boys who eat and eat........and want to eat on my WHITE furniture..........and put their dirty feet up on everything.....and i have a feeling one of .."those"... children taught my child how to dial "911" ....
no wonder Lola wants to grow her hair out........
I'm just saying.........

....so i ask you this:
Is it wrong that i signed the children up at EVERY vacation Bible school going on in the area? Seriously.....it's only like $25 for the week! I've found over 6 churches offering it......over 6 different weeks....

see......i'm on my way to another mother of the year award already......it didn't take long.....
and i'm probably going to get some extra credit when i hit the pearly gates.......
i can see it now........God is looking at me shaking his head ...saying....you were SO close....but you DID send your children to VBS all summer.........so......
Come on in.......
xo

*Chablis...you won the little flea market bag....email me.

Just found you by way of Deana's blog and I'm so glad I did. LOVE your sense of humor! My house was always the hang out spot also. Totally get what you're saying here. I have only one question. How did you avoid having to volunteer at VBS? I was always roped into THAT! *sigh*

Enjoy your summer off! LOL!

I decided to cut back to 2 days of work this summer to "play" with my children..........I get home yesterday from work, and my house is full of little girls from the neighborhood.......hellllllo??? I thought we said no visitors? "These are'nt "visitors" these are our friends"!........guess they told me.
So the new rule is No friends OR vistors while I'm not home.
But I must say I like being the house with all the girls because it keeps MY girls out of my hair.
lol
Oh, and I get the mother of the year, Every Year!

I love this!! Now when they get older, like 16, you go buy groceries and plan everything out for the week. And you go to work....and when you come home...NO FOOD!!! Because your 16 year old and 5 of his closest friends WERE HUNGRY!!!

I have threatened to start charging admission!!

Do they have VBS for 16 year olds?

Have a great weekend!

Yes! Yes! VBS saved my summers!!! Its a win win..the kids love it (really they do!..mine begged to go!)..you get some much needed down time (think about it...EVERYDAY all summer long with your children?) Sounds like you and I are on the same page. I tell you what...when they get older it's Summer Camp for a week at a time..bliss...and then they want to be a camp leader...it's quiet lovely...no guilt envolved!

Thank you for making me smile. :) Have a great weekend! xo

Morning Kasey! you are too funny...I wonder if the 6 different VBS teachers start talking to each other and figure you out...oh then they might make you volumteer, I suggest you change your name for the summer..create an alias!! Enjoy the day!! XOXOXO

I always think it's cool to be the house everyone wants to be at, until they get here - stinky teenage boys who eat more than anyone ever should...yuck! and then there are the less stinky little boys, who also want to eat and then there are the pre-teen girls (enough said...). I think all the VBSs are just the ticket!

It is wonderful to be that house! I aim for that but it hasn't happened yet, I guess because I have rules? I have my youngest signed up for Bible camp and VBS, I would sign them up for a ton if I could find other weeks that we didn't have things going on.
Uhm, by the way, doesn't it count that I throw the frisbee with the dog for about an hour every day while the kids are playing in the yard nearby???

Ya like we sit on the floor and play with our kids all day long. There are moms that do this. Gag. Those also are the moms that use cloth diapers, feed their kids organic granola, and talk about the latest tree hugger laws. Wow. what has gotten into me today. Your post made me laugh. I'm with ya girl.

You are so funny! And yes I spend my days blogging:) That's why they have siblings...to play with right?

You are a hoot. I love your honesty, makes me feel like less of a failure to hear someone else say the things I'm feeling:) Have a great weekend.

This is the funniest thing I've heard in a long time! My daughter lives next door to me and she has three little boys. The neighborhood kids are always at her house. Maybe I'd better clue her in about VBS. L.O.L.

Love it!! your post has made me chuckle x

Coming from a house that generally has 4-5 extra kids in it a day, I would agree with you on the VBS! At my kids age, they would rather put needles in their eyes than have me try to "hang out" with them. If we weren't Jewish, I would be hunting down those VBS's too. It's gonna be a long Summer.

i LOVE this. especially the 'who plays with their children' - EXACTLY. unless we all happen to be in the pool together, or we're at Disneyland - we're children MANAGERS...not PLAYMATES. :)

we manage what they eat, when they sleep, who they're with, how they get from A to B, and answer all their 'why's'. Is there time left to play with them?

that's what friends are for.

queue music.

I am still laughing because I know so many of us can relate to your life. I am the happy mother of 3 sons but they are getting older and need to be driven everywhere. I really need that front plate on my SUV that says "Mom's Taxi"! God bless you for keeping the kids in VBS! Happy summer, JolieAnne

Kasey!!! You crack me up!!! I dread the day when my three boys are big enough to eat me out of house and home...add friends to that equation, and I may just go bankrupt on food bills alone.
I think I know why Lola wants to grow out her hair too...and why the Princess won't let me within 10feet of her if I'm holding anything that might be able to cut hair. LOL!

Don't even lose a night sleep over this! of course you are getting that award!
day 2 of summer and I haven't sat down yet...what the heck is that all about!

You are a riot and if we lived next to each other trust me we'd be at the "club" all day lounging while the kids splashed in the pool, they have life guards for goodness sake. Sipping strawberry smoothies sounds glorious:) And if I had a nickel for every time Frank asked "Who's shoes are all of these" I could buy a new handbag. An expensive one!!
See you next week:)

i just love you way of thinking. and you know what, my grandma (my dad's mom) - her name really, truly was Pearl E. Gates. isn't that great!!

since you're willing to go the extra mile and all... and you want more girls around... I have some air miles and I will ship my girls off to you! I know... I'm one generous lady! How soon do you need them?

Unknown said...

I have four children, and I am there for them no matter what. BUT I am not the sole source of entertainment. I love that they are independent in playing and do not need me as their activity planner. I was never one of "those" moms...so reading your post had me cracking up laughing. When my kids were younger summers used to send me into a fit of depression. It's better now that they are older...but they still play independently ; )

Okay so that makes me a really bad parent that I have been letting the boy play cartoon network games all weeekend while I was busy packing:)) One of my friends put her twins and oldest daughter in several vacation bible camps for the same reason last year. The funny thing is you remind me of her so much. Hope you had a great weekend.

Kasey, I can so relate to this post. Being a mother of 3 sons, when they were smaller, we had the neighborhood hangout and those 3 boys of mine multiplied quick and before I knew what happened I had a house full. I just wasn't clever enough at the time to sign them up for BS all summer. I think that grants you mother of the year. :)
