in my shoes....

Today is Tuesday. Ordinarily......Tuesday's are a good day.......but today is different.

Today marks my children's last day of school......

and this is what i know.....

It's going to be a long summer. I've read your blogs and how much everyone enjoys having the kids home ALL summer long....but.....

I'm not one of those.....

{don't roll your eye's at me...i can see you....}

I'd love to go to the pool and sit without having Fin fall in the deep end...

I'd love to walk to our local pond and not come home to find a squished frog in a pocket....

I'd love for my cleaning lady to tell me she's not taking the summer off...again....

I'd love to wake up and not have everyone asking at 8 "what are we doing today"......

I'd love to be able to have a backyard party without baseball size mosquito's eating me....

or eating my kids.......and then the children itching so bad that they get an infection from having

dirty fingernails.......and needing antibiotics............so that then they can't go in the sun........

and here we are......again.....in the summer....

with no school.

so....

I only have 2 hours to myself today.....{yes...my children's school thinks it's funny to have them come for a whopping 2 hours and then send them home.......they don't even keep them for lunch.....}

xo

oh....and yes...i did treat myself to a new pair of pink ballet flats.... while in Spokane....and that post is coming....trust me...
and please do check this funny post out from my friend out in the middle of nowhere.....

At least you won't have to get them out the door every morning, or pack their lunches, or have papers to filter through, or homework to help with...life is one big trade off let me tell ya.

Hang in there. Fall will be here before you know it and you'll GET to do all the things listed above...lol.

BTW...I finally have a new post after being away for a month! I posted it shortly after you asked me where I had been.

Summer will be over before you know it. I'm trying not to think about those early morning days where they'll want to know what we're doing and I'll have no answer for them.

Your shoes seems so pretty!
Try to enjoy summer with your kids! It's not so loneger, fall will be here soon...

I hear you!! I find holidays a "challenge" too - you aren't alone. And I am glad I am not the only one whose children want to know what we are doing before I have barely opened my eyes LOL!
Hang in there honey!
Simone :)
PS LOVE those pretty pink shoes :)

You have kids off so long over there, i don't think i'd look forward to it either. I can manage the 6 weeks we have here in the uk. I enjoy having the kids at home and not having to get up and ready for school, but i always look forward to when they go back too. x

Can't completely relate to your summer (I'm lovin' it since I don't have to teach), but I CAN relate to those awesome pink flats! They're gorgeous!♥ Hey, at least you'll look great while your kiddos are making you crazy!;)

I don't have kids yet but I have often wondered how parents get through the summer. I guess I will find out soon enough. Gorgeous photo!

I really don't get the two hour thingie either. I think it's silly that we have to all wake up, run around to get ready for a mere 2 hours. Summer is difficult, at times, but I look at the positive. No homework, no schedules, no getting up early and going to bed early. I like the laziness of it all. Of course, by August 1, I'm over it. My kids are bigger, well not my 8-year old, so they do their own thing and so do I (kinda).
Lovin' the shoes.

Thanks for being so honest!
Having no kids myself I often wonder if having kids is always that wonderful as many people with children say it is. Now I know better ... ;-)

Love love love the shoes ...

Funny post over on Marley and Lockyer! Lovin' your shoes. And if I have to be honest, I love my kids, but I'm kind of dreading having them home all day every day..."Mom, I'm bored" I can just hear it now. HA HA! My kids don't get out until the 19th though, so I still have almost two weeks of sanity.

Oh Kasey... sounds like you need a sitter a few days a week. You deserve a few days a week or even just a couple times a month to ya know... just do your thing. :)

BTW... the July issue of Country Living is out in good ol' WV too :)
I was so excited to see your article. Congrats!!

Kasey, Love the shoes and your honesty. When my kids were smaller I felt the same way.
Congrats on your CL article. Got mine in the mail last week and of course read it cover to cover.

You know, I loved summer break as a kid but as a parent I am wondering if it is such a great idea afterall ;)
Now where did you find those shoes in SPokane? Did you hit some boutiques as well?

I'm new here and I'm in love..what a beautiful world you have created here.

I love your ballet flats...I love shoes and this pair are making me salivate.

And as for your last day of freedom...I heard you and I'm not rolling my eyes (believe me!). I love my children but even at 21 and 17, having them home from school all summer is still a "trip"!!! Make the most of this day!!

well, there is certainly that. I do love your shoes, though.

When my kids were younger we belonged to the neighbohood pool. Every morning I got up early, did what I needed to do in the house, packed a lunch and we were at the pool by 10:00, applied sunscreen (or sunscream as Cameron called it), put on the floaties, and stayed pretty much all day! Talk about a great tan! We all had one!

Now Cameron is 16 and he lifeguards at that same pool. I look at him sitting up there on that lifeguard stand, 6'3" tall, long and lanky, sandy hair all in those gorgeous hazel eyes and I wonder....HOW DID THIS HAPPEN??

Just keep those kiddos busy!

Love the shoes!!

You are soooooo not alone. I love Annie, but she has so much energy she needs to go somewhere during the day to wear her out LOL It was worse when the kids were little, because they would fight... ugh!

The only thing I like about it, is not having to get up at 6am to straighten her hair (you do it so much better than me mommy), pack lunches (school food is gross mommy!), deal with report cards.... but I'll be first in line that beautiful day in September when she goes back ;)

Oh and what IS with that 2 hour last day?!

xoxo,

That is too funny... I am one of those really weird moms that absolutely love having them right under my feet all summer long. I am already dreading my oldest starting all day kindergarten next year. What is wrong with me??? I think I seriously need some intervention...

Today is the last day for my gang too. At least they are keeping them for 3 hours! I do have to feed them lunch today as well. It's the last day of school, McDonalds sounds good right?

I have no clue what I'm doing with these kids this summer. I need to come up with something good!

Was that a subtle hint that our daily talks are out the window? Bummer, what am I going to do to pass the time sitting here in my 5x5 cubicle? I think cause I work all day, I am the only one who loves to be home all day with my baby, I absolutely LOVE IT!...but I also don't have giant mosquitos, ack, pluk! Have an awsome summer Kasey! (does that sounds familiar?)

You are not alone! I've got 4 kids and school has already been out for 3 weeks!! I'm climbing the walls. Love my kids, but love my structured day that only seems to happen when I have it all to myself. My advice is to sign them up for as many day camps as possible. They'll love it and you'll get part of your day back:-)
And I adore the shoes!

you know what i love about your blog??? your honesty & humor....it's refreshing.

you share yourself..your real self...so it seems.

you are not alone in dreading summer vacation...a lot of moms feel the same way, you are just one of the few moms who knows by saying that, you are not a "bad" mom...you're honest!

oh yeah....love the flats! :)

I am already on week 3 of summer vacation. Only 6 more to go! Of course the joy of Arizona is that it is so freakin hot the kids can't play outside. Niccccceee!
So, I drag my butt out of bed every morning to go sit in 100+ degree weather so he can be on the swim team. Having him in the water for an hour is the only way I can get his testosterone level down so that he is manageable for the rest of the day. :)

Rachel said...

Hmm, I have no children, so I do not have these "joys" just yet, but I do hope you have a spectacular summer!!

Molly said...

I hear you mom! Add to that countless sleepovers and non-stop taxi service and the summer is in full swing! Oh yipee!

You are real and hilarious! I love that about you! Enjoy your summer!!!! :)

Laura said...

well, you know that I AM NOT ROLLING MY EYES at you!!!!!!!!!!!!! God help me...two home as of tomorrow, and the other home as of next week...a total of FOUR KIDS HOME ALL SUMMER AND NO MONEY FOR SUMMER CAMP.

maybe we should get together...and wear those shoes. THOSE are great!

Today is my 3rd official day of summer. My oldest 16 is downstairs screaming at her two little brothers 6 & 8 for popping balloons and scaring her all morning. Ugh! O.K,I'll admit I'm one of those that posted a blog about how excited I was about summer. I'm trying to be optomistic.(I don't think I spelled that right). Anyway, just try to focus on the moments that you do have fun. They'll grow up so fast then you'll wish you had these crazy summers back again.
Good Luck.

Oof---I totally feel your pain! The huz has started working from home a few days a week, and it's like having a big, needy kid invading my office space. seriously, would i go to his place of work and ask him to make me a sandwich? GEEZ!

LOL these are the reasons I went to my hubby and said, if you took me away from the beach you bettter build me a pool!! now when I hear the words bored, what are we going to do, can friends come over I point to the pool. my least favorite part of summer is the snacking.
cute post and we all think the same thoughts... but I am tired of homework and tests and signing paper work so for that I'm happy.

i can't say i understand, as i don't have my own kids. but i long to have them, so i can honestly say i'd love to have all those things you mentioned. still, i know from my sister who has three VERY active kids that it can be exhausting and take up every bit of free time.

i hope you get some rest and relaxation in this summer and find it to be the best summer yet with your kiddies. :)

Hilarious!! Glad to hear I am not alone!! I soo look forward to the first 2 weeks of no schedule and spending lazy days with the kids- but after 2 weeks!?!?! Summer is REALLY long! ;) Hang in there!

haha!!! finally...someone who spoke my thoughts out loud!!!! i'm totally with you!!!! i love my kids, but don't relish losing my quiet house for the summer!!! sigh...time to adjust my attitude, the bus is coming!

Thanks for being so honest. This is my first summer home with my kids(ages 13 and 10) as I was laid off last October. My 10 year old son is enrolled in a couple of weekly camps, my 13 year old(daughter) has nothing planned. I've been bored being home by myself all this time, but at least it was my time. I am dreading the summer home with no real structure and each of them telling me they're bored. I am definitely not the "camp counselor" type. Makes me sound terrible, doesn't it.

Hoping you find some fun and enjoyment this summer!

You are too funny. You're not the only one that feels a little overwhelmed by the summer. I usually feel this way too at first, and then by the time it's over I'm sad and feel guilty for having felt overwhelmed in the first place. Oh the guilt of being a mom...ugh!

Hi Kasey,
It was fun meeting you at the show! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures, as I didn't take nearly enough. I even dreamed last night that I was back in school and had several exams imminently approaching and I hadn't studied AT ALL. I think it's because I've yet to do my Farm Chicks post! Just LOVE that recurring dream...NOT!

I hope that you will have a wonderful squished frog-free summer!!! Hmmm....squished frog...maybe that is why my prince is nowhere to be found!!!

Love those new shoes! I was torn for a minute too about the kids being home for the summer but for me it ends up being a good thing. No more running around to 8 million places every day. The boys were in different schools and had after school activities, so I was constantly in the car running from one place to another. Taekwon-do is over tomorrow for the summer and soccer ends this saturday. I am looking forward to moving at my own pace this summer. My business however, and the trials of working at home with all 3 kids here everyday is a whole other topic entirely. Serenity now!

We spend a lot of our time in the summer taking the dog for walks, hitting the city pool, and the library! This year my oldest is volunteering to put books away and listen to the kids tell about the books they are reading and give prizes for the reading program. Hopefully you can enjoy some fun things. Also, check out online there are some days that are free at national parks and there are some in IL--none offered in WI, nice! :) Hey, it might even be possible for us to meet sometime this summer! How cool would that be? :)

Guess that's the beauty of homeschooling my children...no summer...no school year to enjoy "me time"...thus no fear of summer "break".

First of all I did not roll my eyes with what you said about the kids. I understand. When they are home for a week I understand. I send my children to camp. I work there so they can go there. And my school, well, they go for an hour and a half the last day, why? What is the point?
It will be a long summer, geez my kids don't end until the 26th. But in the end you will make some memories, have fun and maybe, just maybe steal a few moments to yourself. And I do hope you will still blog about those everyday happenings

and here I have been thinking that I was the only mom that growled when she is asked "aren't you excited that it's summer?" I have a 9, 8 and 5 year old, all boys that ask me several times a day, what are we going to do, can i have a snack, this is my 3rd outfit of the day because i got mud on one and the other is in the backyard wet, and where are we going to eat lunch today? 10 weeks of this....
