Au revoir...

I sit here at this moment at a crossroads.
I used to have this shop called Lola B's....it was an actual shop.....a brick and mortar....
and i loved her....
i loved being in the shop....
the smell.....
the people....
the craziness that happens when you own an actual shop.
Then fourteen months ago i closed the shop when i lost my lease.....
but it turned out to be a godsend because the economy had already started
to turn.....
and so i focused on my online shop.....
and started doing sales out of my carriage house in
the back.
I am feeling the tug still......the need to cut back....
because i have so many things going on in my life..
and want to focus my energy on some projects that
have presented themselves to me.

I still plan on having my occasional sales.....
starting back up in the spring...
but i feel the need to shut down my online shop...
most of you probably didn't even know i had
an online shop.....
because i rarely talk about it...

I don't know if it'll be temporarily...
i mean seriously.....
its been shut down for a few weeks here and there...
and i know you email me and want to know
what is going on...
so here it is....
the can of worms is being opened for you.
The shop might be closed for a few months...
or maybe a year...
i just don't know.

It's really hard being competitive in a market where shop owner wants to have their own look..
and i feel like i spend so much time trying...
only to find out that someone is carrying the same thing..
or found the same jewelry...
and even though my shop is all me..
and this is by no means an excuse..
but i just need to step back...
breathe...
regroup....
and focus my energy on some
exciting things that are knocking on my door.

I just want to say thank you to all who have made purchases over the last few years...
you will be missed.
Alright....so this is where a few of you will benefit from this little departure.
A giveaway!
I have so many items that i only have one or two of....
and since i won't be having a carriage house sale till the spring
then i am going to put together 3 boxes of goodies..
it'll be like an early christmas gift to you...
from me.
I can't tell you what will be in the boxes...or what it'll be
worth...
but it'll be fabulous..
full of Lola b goodness.
good luck girls....
there will be 3 winners.
xo

I've been reading your blog for some time now...I just love the way you write! My sister-in-law also recently had to close her brick-and-mortar shop. I assume the economy gobbled her up like all the other little boutiques, but I don't ask. Anyways, have a very Merry Christmas here in our grey/gray Chicagoland!

I've always fantasized about having a store, but it also terrifies me for some of the reasons you mentioned. It's amazing how seemingly unique products show up in multiple places and become common. Just today, I saw a picture from the J. Crew store article in Lonny and there are two little bird statues that are being sold by an eco-friendly boutique in my little city.

Anyway, I'm sorry about the store and am thankful for the giveaway.

Oh my, you really do have to be my little soul sister! A couple of months ago I read your posts from the Country Living Fair (Which I was supposed to work at as gofer, but in wee hours of morning of, a kidney stone played havoc....), but anyway, I loved your posts! They made me smile, but also sad that I missed out on meeting terrific ladies like you Lola B! And today, I was finally paying some attenion to my poor blog and I wanted to add yours as one of my favorites, so here I am, just to find out that you are facing the same dilemma I went through a few years back! I still miss my brick and mortar store....and never did get around to selling online or outback in my little barn....although I keep buying stuff with that in mind! Somedays I think I'll hop on a motorcycle and drive off into the sunset, other days, my bones hurt and I think I'll just lay in bed and read magazines. My head is so full of great ideas, but then I go chasing butterflies with my granddaughter and think maybe I've got it all wrong! But life is just so great isn't it and so full of possibilities! Gonna go blog about cha, maybe twitter a thing or two. I love boxes of surprises! I'll send you one back if you want more stuff! Best of luck little soul sister. Keep making me smile.....SisterBrendy

Although others may have had similar items as you sold in your store, everything you did have was fabulous. I'm certain whatever you embark on next will be Tres Chic! I love, love your blog. It's a bit of scrumptiousness I look forward to. Best wishes!

Beautiful blog---I just found you!

Just in time for a wonderful giveaway!

As a former shop owner, I understand where you are coming from....

You get to go to France....I just got back and feel like I left part of my heart there. I loved everything about it. While there I asked Brooke @ Velvet & Linen where to go, she told me to ask Vicki @ French Essence and within hours I new where the flea markets in Paris were....don't you just love the blog world, women clear across the world connecting, amazing isn't it?

I had a brick and mortar shop. Bittersweet to close. (My kiddos were similar in age to yours.) One of the best decisions I've made, even though I still miss it at times. Thinking about starting a blog... not quite sure how, but would love to connect with some great gals such as yourself!

Ok, I have to tell you that I was late to my son's kindergarten Christmas party and we were suppose to have 22 little gifts for the kids stockings and I didn't, nope, I said I didn't get the memo. Let's just say I didn't make a lot of mom friends in that class! Anyway, can I just say how gorgeous your house is! I love love love the staircase. I use to live in Rockford, IL so I know all the shops in St. Charles and Geneva. I loved shopping with my girlfriend especially at Christmas! So sad to see you go! Your party with your friends looked amazing, can I be invited next year? So, what are all the ways you can tie a scarf? Love following your blog, I just started one myself, I would love you to check me out!

Oh yes, I have those days often. Like today all I wanted was to get my Christmas cards in the mail and I did BUT during that time my son decided to squirt an entire tube of Cortisone cream all over our couch. We try...that's what makes a good mama. Hugs!

I have really enjoyed reading your blog, the first time I read it, I laughed for a very long time, I believe you were sharing some confessions . . . a couple of them were so 'me' that you won a new reader. You have become one of my faves. Thank you for this opportunity to win something, you have such beautiful things. May you find what you need during your break from the shop.
