I know how to cook.......

Happy friday to you...it's been so long hasn't it.
oh....
i guess it's not quite friday yet is it.....
sorry...
it feels like the week has been flying by....
alright...
not really....
i realize it's only tuesday afternoon.....
but i thought i would go ahead and extend an invitation to you...
it's been so long since i've had you over...
come on in..
don't mind the snow though...
we had about twelve inches on sunday.
Oh...
one quick reminder...
watch out for the killer icicles....
because i don't do so well around blood...

Please watch your step coming in the front door.....

I don't know about you....
or your home...
but as for me...
i'm not a big believer in mud rooms...
nope...
who needs a mud room when you can just walk in the
front door.....
throw off your boots and jackets..
and leave them for someone else to pick up.

I realize you might have had a long trip through the storm to get here...
so i want you to make yourself at home..
feel free to peruse thru my new cook book...
it was a christmas gift....
and from Anthro....
ha ha...
no...anthro didn't gift me the book silly...
not that they owe me anything anyways...
really....they don't.
I know how to cook...
by the lovely Ginette Mathiot.
She's french...in case you were wondering.

Now....
because i haven't had time to whip up some
Escargots...
or...
Oie braisee aux marrons..
then feel free to come into the cucina....
errrr.
sorry...that was spanish for kitchen..
and i'm fluent in spanish...but not so much french...
so that might get me in trouble when i
get off the plane in france...
"donde esta el vino...."
see.....
at least the word VINO is known across the world...
it's the type of word that everyone should know..
don't ya think?
Alright....
where was i...
oh!
come on in and grab some cereal....

beggars can't be choosers you know....
it's either rice krispies...
apple jacks...
or frosted flakes.
The box might have been open for awhile...
so i'm really sorry if it's a bit stale...
but don't worry...
nothing a little milk in a bowl can't fix..
right!?

When you are done eating...come on over to the wine bar...
i realize it's a bit empty..
{the kids have been arguing quite a bit lately..and i've needed to set my clocks to five}
so..there is no good wine left....
only a little port left...
i hope you like port...
because i have an amazing recipe that i will share with you...
that is...
if you don't have to leave.
Now...
won't you come have a seat....

Alright....
before you make yourself comfortable....
let me explain...
i have had to give up my cleaning ladies...
yes...
i need to save some money for my trip to france..
and unfortunately....
i have forgotten how to clean up...
wait a minute...
those aren't my toys now are they....
sheesh....
what is wrong with my children!
Alright....
at least my house is a home..
it's lived in...
all 1800 square feet of it...
it can't be perfect all the time.
phew...
that felt better.
Unfortunately....i have a little one that does not feel so good.

I'm not quite sure if she really is under the weather or just wanted to get
out of nature camp today.
You see....
at last minute..i signed up both Mason & Lola for outdoor
nature camp.
It was for three mornings..and yesterday they went on a bear hunt..
well...
i guess Lola was just not to fond of being outside for three hours
following bear tracks around in the EIGHT degree temperature.
I don't blame her...
so here she is...
on the sofa in my bedroom...
missing out on camp today.
I do hope you had a good time hanging out with me.....
how were the frosted flakes and the port?
oh good....
yes..that was lovely...
i'll see you next time.
xo
p.s. thank you all for your votes on The Homies! I didn't make the top 6..but i came in 8th..and that means a whole lot..to even be nominated..so thank you very much!

Ok, Ill shut up about the 8 hours I spent outdoors yesterday in the 50 degree weather. As for the cleaning ladies, mine left on a jet plane a few years ago so it's been all me, me, me.. Wouldn't know a mud room if I walked into one living in southern cali and shoes at the front door along with jackets and backpacks are the Norm to me. Not a Port drinker but I wouldn't mind a glass of wine sitting in the middle of all that stuff cuz that is the Norm in our house. xo Jamie

SOUNDS LIKE IT'S TIME FOR KIDS TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL! A HOME DOES REALLY CHANGE DURING CHRISTMAS BREAK! YOU HAVE A CUTE HOUSE..HAVE A GREAT WEEK! Come say hi ;D

Hilarious. I have two boys, so multiple the dinosaurs and light sabers by two. Of course, on the plus side, this means I don't have to deal with Polly Pockets or Pet Shop toys. My cleaning lady is getting the boot so I can go to Buenos Aires, Argentina (Paris of the south!) and see my gram for the first time in 15 years.

Your house is gorgeous, even messy.

p.s. Hey! My word verification is argensig. I think God is telling me something. :)

Your post cracked me up!!! Hmmm...guess cereal recipes are not included in hour fab new cookbook!

Your home is lovely, and it looks great with that lived in look.

Blessings in the New Year,

So funny since I don't have a mudroom and the children tend to drop their shoes and jackets and whatever else they may have on or are holding onto the floor. Me I just leave my jacket in the car, so much easier. You always make me laugh.

Thank you for the tour. Lola's socks are super cute. When I was about Fin's age...I looked up at our twenty-something cleaning lady who was standing in our entry and said, "My muddo is a kiwo wobot!" She (the C.L.) must have tried to tell me what to do. I can't remember if she came back after that. She ended up driving off of a bridge! Yikes!

I hope ya'll have a beautiful day!

alrighty, sweets..we need to get something straight! lol As much as I say I like wine, like I am some kind of wine connoisseur or something...but the fact is..I just like semi-sweet wines...mainly whites. Riesling, you get Riesling stocked in that empty wine cart of yours (you got pretty desperate there, didn't ya? to empty your whole cart. haha) then I will be up there! :P
B
OH! and I liked that 'straight lines' song. Pretty cool

I enjoyed my "visit" to your home...lovely as always. Shoes & toys on the floor always makes one feel more at home. :) Have you looked up the definition of "Perfect House" lately? I did and it read: "Refer to Kasey's".

xo,

Gail

P.S. It's snowing in Texas and I LOVE IT! A real treat for a Southern gal who dreams of white winters...

Nancy said...

You crack me up... Good for Lola, I can't think if anything worse. PLEASE tell me where you got the bird decal on your beautiful front door. I have to have it... PLEASE, I won't tell anyone :)

PS. You should put up a countdown to France on the blog, I know all of us are so excited for you and want to share in the excitement!

Unknown said...

Fab post Kasey, you did make me laugh....thank goodness for you is all I can say :)

Well done for being 8th - altho we all know you should have won that $50 for your France shopping fund....

Your home looks so pretty....I do love wooden houses, you really don't get many of them over here....yours is beautiful, inside and out.

Simone xo

PS Because I am a good friend and I know you won't mind...I will just tell you that cucina = Italian.....cocina = Spanish :)

Languages are easy in really small doses :)

"Avez-vous du vin?" Wine please!!!...Tres important :)

Bonne nuit :)

My verification word was "trato"...maybe that's Italian for smartypants ;)

Lori said...

First I laugh at your post ~ then at Simone's comments ~ she is a sassy one!! So sorry you had to give up your cleaning lady ~ look at the bright side though ~ the kids will be back in school next week.... I realize that is a long 5 days away ~ but with some port ~ I think you will make it. Oh ~ the Apple Jacks were delish.

Lovely! Esp the messy photo. I am so glad to know that I am not alone. Although I am still picking up the occasional stray feather from the bag my Mia dumped about the house. Anyway, congrats on the nomination--you deserve it. Any tips on the white slip covered sofa? I have one, too.

Also, as soon as I get my website up--some indefinite time in the future, I'd love to be a sponsor and do a giveaway! Happy Holidays!

Okay...so I wish it was Friday...for sure because if it was...I would be drinking mimosas already...one of us is usually sick on New Year's Eve for some sort of reason...not that we have any plans or anything...but anyway...it is almost tradition to wake up and drink mimosas...boy that is off point now...but oh I was just thinking today I am ready for the school to start back up as Hayley pulled out Madison's hair today and I think someone dropping off something today was too scared to let me know and probably heard me yelling at my kiddos at that point...okay now way off point...so here we go...your house is gorgeous with anything and everything all strewn around...just gorgeous my dear!...And I made a point to let hubby know that I am all out of wine and since Trader Joe's is on his way home...wink...hint...not so subtle hint...he may think about picking up more since it is only Tuesday...whew! Sorry for the rambles...but I for sure thought we would all get you there...you super deserved to win!...and by the way no worries about my package...you are doing something incredibly nice so please just whenever...and definitely miss you too:)

DYING laughing.

my house looks exactly like yours - minus the deadly icicles and snow-gear. But flip flops and sweatshirts? they're everywhere.

AND - we have the same front porch light. I adore that.

PS - may I have another bowl of frosted flakes & port? I'd like to maintain these giggles I've got brewing up....

I am so with Lola on ixnay to the bear huntsay...it's FREEZING.. Hello???Bears hibernate!

I was glad to see your house in realistic disarray (especially the animal on the wine cart) because then when you show up this weekend in your cute little outfit and darling boots, I will know that really, she is similar to me in some ways...except her skirt size is 1/2 mine and she has long cute hair...and shops these markets instead of dragging crap, I mean merchandise, to them!

It's about 11 degrees here in Mn...outside looks like your home, so does the inside, but it's my toys all over, no kids to blame..dang.

This, my dear, is why I love reading your blog so very much. It's real. And you're real.

Oh, and I love your house!

My 1500 sq ft is closing in on me with all the new stuff that has yet to find a place (other than in the middle of the family room).

Oh, and my little one is under the weather too. He's been mighty cuddly though, so that's a nice side effect.

Wendy said...

Oh...I am smiling!! I don't know what to say first...I also said good bye to our cleaning lady this year :(

I am so happy to see we are not the only house with toys every where, but even with all the toys your home is still so beautiful!

Thanks for keeping it real!!

Sweet! What a lovely home -- homes are meant to be lived in, right? That's what I keep telling myself. And your boot/coat area is way cleaner than mine. The snow and sludge have won! Have a great New Year's!

Gosh I'll trade weather with you, our snow melted. We had a miracle White Christmas, global warming the past ten to twenty years usually robs us, but it was just a half inch. Now it melted and I'm sad. If you'd like you can stop on by my 'house' and have a good old fashioned mincemeat cookie...

If it was Friday I would have been at home today instead of at my shop all day trying to fix the internet connection. The same mess at your house is at my house and I wasn't there today to keep it from getting worse. In fact the 17 year old had a friend over and I think they taught the other two how to take stuff out of their rooms and place 3 pieces (per child + guest) in each room. Many of my cereal boxes are empty (even though they were still on the shelf) because teenagers don't think of cereal as a meal but a box is a between meal snack as long as you drink a gallon of milk with it. Well I have a surprise for them. No, it isn't friday yet but not long after friday is monday and they will go back to school. I may send the teachers an extra present just for taking them back.

So our house has a side entrance that was designed for the staff (large house used to be fancy but they didn't have kids). I make the kids use it as a mud room and I come in the front door to pretend there is one less mess for me to have a fit over.

Here is to Monday, I will have a port for me and another for you!

Loved the tour through your home! Its gorgeous and would be my ideal place to kick up my feet. Make sure you at least try to speak french when you get to Paris because those Parisians are brutal!

Glad I don't have to worry about killer icicles over here although snow would be nice for the holidays. Love Port for dessert! Had a lovely time visiting, thanks so much. :)

Oh, so glad to hear life in Illinois is like life in Iowa!

My house is a wreck...had to take the kids to the doctor...almost 10 year old has a bad cough and he went on to have a panic attack because he hates the doctor.....Dr. calms him down and it turns out he needs an antibiotic, then asked the dr. to check Claire (5) she is peeing constantly....had her pee in a cup, she went pee all over my hand and laughed....pee tested clear the dr. said she just likes to pee...went to Target for perscription for James and kids started fighting and then one of the kids head butted the other so the other one cries! I preceded to tell the kids "thats it, you 2 are driving me crazy, just find your own ride home....woman in the same aisle as us laughs at me and said "Oh you poor thing, I ran away and left my crazy kids at home" and all I could do was laugh and think ok, I'm normal and when is school starting, is it almost Monday ?"

I love your house no matter what condition it is in! Hope your little one is feeling better! Just love reading you!

I just came across your blog and I am so glad I did! The pictures you take of your home are such an inspiration. I am in need of some much needed motivation with painting my own home and I think I found it just looking at how beautiful but comfortable your home is. I really love the paint color in this post! Any info you have on the color and brand would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work!

i love the "real" images of your home. just like all the rest of us. i don't have the toys anymore, but my front porch is one big mess of shoes, boots, carharts and coats. you can barely get to the door. who taught my kids how to pick up after themselves? probably their dad!!

Thanks for the laughs! It's nice to see a gorgeous home that is lived in too! That's exactly how my house looks every day - then the kids go to bed & I pick it up all over again :)

I can't believe you got 12" of snow - we only got 2" in central IL.

You have a beautiful home! Thank you for sharing even the messy pics. I mean, what's a home that you can't relax and live in?! And the picture of your white couch with toys strewn everywhere has somewhat improved my chances for a white couch - so thank you! We have a 15-month-old, and my husband is convinced that the two cannot coincide. I think it just might work . . .
