In one word.......

Have you ever sat back and thought to yourself that you are being watched...

and i mean...

watched.

Not by some force of nature...

but something...like possibly ....

a camera.

candid camera possibly?

I thought for sure today that my life was indeed

being taped for that program.

Seriously...because how often do i come out and say..

that i am going to completely give in..

and have an entire week dedicated to the welfare

of these beings called...

my children?

A whole day....

*breath*

shall we start at the beginning....

yes...that sounds lovely.

We woke up this morning....to a beautiful snowfall...

just like in the movies.....

except i had to make my own coffee....

and get my kids dressed myself.

We had already discussed the plans for the day....

another train ride...but this time...a wee bit longer...

into the city of Chicago.....

it's about an hour and fifteen....but no worries...

i grabbed my skinny vanilla latte...

the kids had their hot cocoa....

and we hopped on the train..

{even though thoughts of sitting in my jammies sounded wonderful}

we arrived in chicago...got off the train and met bryan..

who's office just so happens to be in the same building as

the train station.

We had another hot cocoa...and grabbed a taxi over to

millennium park.

This is the place to be....one of the prettiest outdoor skating

arena's.....

oh.....

it was so pretty....

the snow was lightly falling....

christmas music was playing in the speakers...

it really wasn't very cold....

{thank god...because i didn't get a chance to go and buy a "real" coat}

but it was just perfect....

like in the movies....

that type of perfect.....

So perfect...that you just knew something couldn't be right.

yup.

we walked over to the line....the line that wrapped around

the entire rink....

the line to rent skates...

for those people that don't have their own skates...

yes...

that would be us...

and the 100 plus tourists from out of town....

in line....

that wrapped around the

freakin rink

with a sign that said....

two hour wait.

two. hour. wait. to .rent. skates.

my children were heartbroken.....

well...

not really Fin...

he pouted..but i knew deep down that

he was ecstatic....

because he knew he'd fall on his ass...

and i say that in the nicest way...

since there were no little holders for the kids

to hold on to...

they had to rely on mom and dad...

mom and dad...

who never ice skate...

I did get some lovely photo's of some other people's children skating...

and they were quite good....

it was fun photographing other children....

it's to bad my kids were on the side...
my crying children...
sobbing actually....

yup....

my kids were on the side...

watching other children skate...

After we watched the skaters for a while...

and got some fabulous photo's of

other people's children...
ahem.
yes..i managed to grab a photo of the husband and myself...
seriously....
it's better than crying children...
okay...
where was i.
oh...

we had some lunch...

grabbed another taxi....

then headed back to the hour and fifteen minute train ride home.
I really tried to think of my life in just one word...
so if you have one...
one word..that would fit..
please let me know.

xo

NORMAL! Sounds like something that would happen to me, only my kids will still be going on about it on the ride home. Those other kids look like they were having a Great Time though! LOL...I can guarantee that your kids will be talking about day they went into the city on the train and the line to skate was 2 hrs. BELIEVE ME, it will be a Funny story soon enough. xo Jamie

LUCKY - to be able to spend the day with your children on a train trip, no less. My kids are grown now and you will miss these times, believe me...enjoy each precious moment! Merry Christmas to you and your beautiful family! xxoo

You look so happy to me Kasey despite the lack of skates.
I say the word could be 'fortuitous'...because imagine.... if you had rented skates and one of you had slipped and broken your ankle then you would be in hospital and then on crutches and then Christmas would have been a disaster because Santa would have been really slowed down and then and then and so on... So fortune smiled on you today...'fortuitous' it is!
Happy Holidays, xv.

That's my word for you...I don't know why...just the first word that came to my mind when you said one word...

Even though sounds like a long day...those pictures are gorgeous...and sorry about the ice skating...I would have died seeing that 2-hour wait...but I hope you came home and say in those jammies with a warm drink in hand...

Sounds truly like a wonderful day though Kasey...and I agree with Jamie too...normal.

Hope you have a terrific Christmas Kasey!

Okay so to be honest...I was thinking of the movie Mary Poppins by the way...I got curious about the real meaning of the word and looked it up...not calling you deliciously sexy either because that is what it says...I thought that was in a kid movie...and not saying you are not...but certainly not my place to say that about others...because I'll say that for hubby but that's it...now I'm just rambling...so is that really what that word means? Oh boy!

I would say the word is "normal" : )! Any time you mix 3 young children with any expectations of any kind, the inevitable is going to happen. That's why we love to read you. Because the normal, the inevitable happens . . . and you're still smiling : )!

Joyful! Joyfully chaotic maybe?! :)

You've done well... my son would have insisted we stand in the line for two hours to skate, and then not want to do it after 20 minutes!

Everyone is right though... the memories the kids will have about the day will bring lots of laughter when they are older. It's one of my favorite times when I'm with all my siblings!

Happy day to you all,

Mikal

Merry Christmas, girl. And just the thought of skating around on the frozen ice is enough to send me right back into my jammies. You were brave to attempt it!

Unpredictable! Sometimes good, sometimes not so good, but usually life is unpredictable:) All in all, the day may not have gone as planned...and that 2 hour wait must have been terribly disappointing...but it sounds like it was still a wonderful time. Merry Christmas, Kasey!

Fabulous. I would L-O-V-E, love to be able to hop on a train & arrive in Chicago even if we didn't get to ice skate, but instead take in the view!

That's exactly what would happen to me. So sorry for your kids. sigh.

I moved away from Chicago 13 years ago on December 26th - How I miss Chicago at Christmas time.. Michigan Avenue all decked out - the State Street windows. Nothing says Christmas like walking down Michigan Avenue or eating under the tree at the Walnut Room at Marshall Field's (now Macy's)

Thanks for sharing

After reading all these comments, we know we are all the same!! That would be me too. OR we would have gotten skates after an hour wait and everyone would hate it and cry and chipped a tooth or something like that. And I'm grateful for the heads up that it's a two hour wait for skates. I have often felt guilty about not taking the kids downtown for skating. No more...now we'll just leisurely stroll by on our way to lunch!!

Oh Casey, your life is too much like mine...this is the kind of stuff that happened to me all the time when I was raising my kids! Let me tell you a secret....it only gets more dramatic as they grow into the "mean teen years" and you stand in line for hours to get those coveted tickets for the concerts of their teen idols of the day. I've sat through a few of those with 100,000 screaming girls that you can't get away from. I can't wait to read your blog as the little ones grow! You're "way cool" in my book. Hope your Christmas Morning is everything you hoped it to me!

You are really blessed when you can spend the time at home when you kids are out of school for the holidays, summer, or out sick and to be able to plan and have a new adventure each day. These are the times that you will always remember and be glad that you did it.
