Girls in Paris...trois..

This issue of girls in Paris...the style edition....

is brought to you by Credit Card services...

because if it were not for them...

then my secret of monetary infidelity wouldn't have come to light.

{that's a whole other post....}

What caught my eye first and foremost in the photo above was not

just the cobblestone alley filled with people...

but the gentleman with the dark grey shorts on the right.

His hands are in his pockets....

the black vest a bit slouchy over his long sleeve white shirt.

I hadn't meant to take people photos...

i was just taking a photo of an alley.

There just happened to be a lot of French men heading to and fro.

I'm heading out to buy Bryan some new grey shorts this morning.

This is Franc the "pharmacist".

He's the one responsible for Kim's French band aids.

Franc was shy.

Kim was not shy.

Kim wanted her band aids.

Darling French vespa man smoking a cigie.

This is little Madeleine.....

and violet....

even though violet had a red coat on.

I coveted that red coat.

All the girls had bangs.

I have an appointment tomorrow with my stylist.

I'm going to get bangs.

I know....

i realize i haven't had bangs in 25 years...

but i will have bangs as of tomorrow.

Alrighty...

this next girls was gorgeous.

And i think she was only 13 or 14.

She was with a bunch of girlfriends...

and at the time i took the photo..she was being talked up by one of the

artists at Montmartre.

He was trying to draw her...then her friends all walked away

while she was stuck.

She reminds me of what i looked like when i was 13.

Except i was overweight and had an acne problem....

and i don't think i could put an outfit like this together.

I almost brought this boy home with me....

the problem was...

i tried to take his hand and pull him away...

but his dad yelled something in French.

I swear it sounded like he yelled..

get more macrons at the bakery.

So we did.

This is where we met Fredrick.

Fredrick is the nice boy who runs the patisserie in St. Remy.

I'm sure Kim might have a good photo of Fredrick.

Fredrick wouldn't look up at me....

but he looked up at Kim.

I bought macrons anyway.

It's really hard to get people photos.

Sometimes they look and smile...

sometimes i had to use my zoom lens and

act like I'm taking photos of a tree in the distance.

Then there was this girl.

For the life of me..she wouldn't look over....

so i said...forget it.

She was sitting right next to us...

and i just snapped away.

I love her short shorts...with tights.

I'm heading shopping tomorrow for some short shorts.

This next girl reminded me of Lola.....

not the way she dressed....

because i couldn't pay Lola to wear a dress...

a scarf...

a coat...braid her hair...boots with leggings.

Nope...

Lola would have closed her eyes as well as soon as she saw me taking a photo.

I'm going to go and buy a new scarf for lola tomorrow.

I'm also going to learn to braid hair again.

I don't know if i told you how hard the trip was on Kim...

she had a heck of a time with the stick shift of the car we rented.

Needless to say....

i believe i was doing all the navigating and the map reading.

I even had to parallel park us at one point...

but more to come on that later.

I also think Kim smoked one tooo many cigies......

Okay...that was SO not funny.

This lady was fabulous...she was hanging in the town square in St. Remy.

She even started chatting us up a bit.

The no teeth thing made it a bit complicated in trying to understand..

All in all....

she made the reality of conversing with a local who had probably

lived there her entire life...

pretty amazing.

I decided to not color my grey hair anymore.

Seriously....it's really not my fault that Jean-Pierre keeps showing up.

I also did not accidentally order 25 prints of him.

I'm even sending one to my mother in law...

for helping while i was away.

I know she would appreciate it.

I have to admit....the people watching in France and Italy compares to NO WHERE else!!! I could just show up at a cafe or park with something yummy in a glass and just SOAK it all in. I think the children look so good {as well as the adults!} because the Europeans buy fewer, well-made and well-tailored pieces of clothing. For some reason, that philosophy is harder to follow here in the States....I find that I am always wanting to add something new to feel "current." CURRENT in France is just a different concept....LOVE these pictures and the feelings that they evoke! Thank you! xx P&H

I was imagining french men to be more fair in coloring for some reason. I think they could all pass for Italians! Great looking either way. I almost stole a child from the grocery store yesterday. I was telling my son how darn cute he was. My son advised me not to repeat that.

Martha said...

it was all amazing...no way I could dress myself so cute at that age either...everyone was just gorgeous! Loved it!

{received it yesterday so BIG thanks to you}

One word: STALKER.

Just think where we were two weeks ago today - dinner at that little place we found accidentally, two bottles of wine, and the little bar with the french cigies. I MISS YOU!!!

J'adore! You truly get a feel for a country by it's people.

The green Antho sweater I am coveting looks swell on you.

What an adventure! WOW, the guy on the Vespa...smokin' hot, I think I'm in love! Being in Pairs with my girlfriends might look a bit the same. Too many cigie's, wine, photo's, food and of course endless laughter. Love your pics.

Amazing photos Kasey. I love to see "The French in Real Life" Oh...sorry. I guess I'm still thinking of names for your trip! I really liked the necklace...j/k. But really, I wore tights with shorts in the 7th grade. I'm not sure I could pull that off at the fine age of 34! About the bangs....are you sure you want to do that? You will love them for a few days and then have to tape or hairspray them back for the next year!! That's been my experience anyway. Can't wait to see what you do next!

Mande said...

Love how the French dress their children- so classy & chic. And the bangs....love them.

Kimberly said...

Jean-Pierre is handsomer every time I see his picture.

I've got bangs, I speak french! Si,si... comment allez-vous? Tall and thin. That means I could be parisian, but I'm not. The pictures are great and so is your humour! They say that Quebec city (Canada), the old Québec, chateau de Frontenac, it's like being in Paris. I've been to Québec city, love it!

Isn't people watching in Paris the best? I wasn't as daring as you to take photos of people. Or at least mine didn't turn out as well. That's it. I have a friend that lived there for 30 years. She told me that the French women buy very few, but VERY expensive clothes. They wear them and wear them, then start over. Maybe once a season? I don't remember. But, she was the recipient of many beautiful clothes. I can't wait to see more photos of your trip!

I love the fashion sense everyone has ease with attaining there! You just don't see that when you go to the grocery stores around here! You see kids sagging and wearing pj's in the middle of the day. Time to move! ;) I love how almost everyone you captured in photos is wearing...gray!! But of course! ; )

Great post, Kasey! I had to laugh when I saw the young gentleman wearing shorts. Back when I was living in Paris in the early 90's, that was just not done. Other things that were "just not done" fashion-wise: running/jogging/sports shoes (leather shoes only, even for the park), no t-shirts, especially for men (button-shirts only), no jeans for women at work, not even in the laboratory where I did my PhD research (we were doing experiments with animals and chemicals, but the women were always dressed top-notch - it was crazy!!!). p.s. I learned the hard way :)

Beautiful pictures, I love their fashion sense there, although I will tell you that a couple of years ago, I went to Mexico where some of our family is from on a trip I so didn't want because of reasons I won't bore you with here ;) I was really surprised to see how European everything was there, the architecture was beautiful...peoples fashion sense so lovely, I their coats, shoes, I wanted it all, then I stopped to buy some hot chocolate and sat outside of a lil bistro and all around me I heard so many beautiful languages, German, Italian and even French...I bought this up to my cousin and she laughed and said...Amor, the world is a small place is it not" such wise words from a 16 yr old lol and she was wearing the most adorable outfit and turned and spoke in German to the lady next to us, I don't know what they said...but they both looked at me and smiled :) I love you sharing your trip...I might not make it to Paris, but I can live it vicariously through you and the other wonderful bloggers that are nice enough to share their beautiful trips with us :) Besos, Rose

When I was in Paris in April 2007, one of the first things we did was go to a cafe nearby the apt. we rented and we're sitting outside there and a car is pulled up on the street by us and there's a young girl, prob. about 9 years old, and she's picking her nose and I'm looking at her thinking YUCK, and she sees me looking at her and she smiles and gives me the FINGER!!! ha! like 9 years old! It was shocking at the time, but is funny now. Oh, I'd love to be there this April! So much! Suzie
