Cloudy.....with a chance of...

It's been that sort of week.

Cloudy...with a chance of.....something.

First...off....

Lola took a tumble at school.

I finally took her to the doctor this morning because her eye

was starting to swell, and she was really complaining about

the pain.

aaaghh.

I just hope she doesn't scar.

The doctor told me to keep her out of the sun.

exscuse me?

ummm.....we don't live in florida....

and we rarely see the sun...

so no problem there.

I told lola to make sure she listens to the doctor and

not sit outside in her swimsuit for to long.

she rolled her eyes at me....

then started crying because that made the pain worse....

Lola is in brownies..which is the prequel to girl scouts.

Part of signing her up was the condition that each mom has to

take a turn in hosting a project with the girls at one of the meetings.

{Ahem}

What you don't know about me is that i don't craft.

I don't craft with my children....

i don't have play dough in my home...

i am just that mom.

You don't have to feel bad for my children...

{i mean ..i didn't breastfeed them either}

and so far....

they seem okay to me.

They are not deprived.

They are not neglected.

Okay....maybe a little neglected....but not everyday.

pinky promise.

Anyway...{i took the "s" off for you Mrs L. }

I happened to be walking around Target on Saturday.....

doing what i do best....

shopping.

As i am perusing the aisles....

thinking to myself...

this week is going to be so nice....

there is testing going on at the school..so i don't have to volunteer

like i normally do on Wednesday's.....

i'm almost caught up on deadlines...

and then...

i get a tap on my shoulder.

It's Lola's troop leader.

She reminds me that i am in charge of the craft on Tuesday.

This Tuesday.

The Tuesday in three days.

I clear my throat....and oh so politely say...

sure

i remember

no problem

i know exactly what i am going to do.

{total fabrication}

I walked slowly around Target for an hour.

thinking.

contemplating.

dreaming.

Then i came up with a motto.

"when in doubt.....go all out"

I thought it would be so fun for the girls to make

Peep houses.

Peep Houses!

Considering i had peeps all over from the photo shoot last week.

I made graham cracker homes.......
by myself.
That was an accomplishment.....
even my kids were impressed.
I glued the homes together using squeezable frosting...
then let them sit overnight to harden.
The homes are totally edible.
{just don't call me when your kid wakes up in the middle of the night with a belly ache}

This is candy grass.
edible....and so freakin good.
We all felt like cows.....eating it by the mouthful.

Needless to say.....
project "come up with something in 2 days"
worked out pretty nice.
Now i just need to smooch and kiss my battered beauty.
xo

Love the Peep houses - that was a great idea - the edible grass sounds great - I will feed it to my husband - he will eat anything as long as it has sugar in it.

I have been a crafter thoughout my life. Not really proud of that at this point, but I'll own it. Anyway, you came up with a fabulous craft for the kids. Amazing!

I hope Lola's owies heal fast! Pure vitamin E works wonders on healing or neosporin. I have a particular child..not naming names...we just like to call him Dennis the Menace at our house, who has had many owies and scrapes just like those on Lola. So sorry!

As for the Peep houses...love them! I haven't tried the edible grass and now you have me curious...must buy some edible grass at my house! lol You did a great job being creative and it looks like the kids loved them!

Have a great...better week! ;)

Hugs,
Victoria

what a brilliant idea...who says you're not crafty? mothers by their very nature are quite astute at flying by the seat of our pants and your little project soars my dear! give your poor bruised baby a little kiss from me!

Oh no, poor Lola :( I am sure it won't scar though, it will be just fine.

And the PROJECT....is AMAZING....to me....wow, nice work!! My daughter is in Brownies too, thankfully I don't have to volunteer...I am also not a crafter....I pay for my daughter to do that at clubs and with people who are much more expert than me!!

:)

PS Loved your "flip-flop" comment, that did make me laugh!! xo

Poor baby Lola. I am so glad she is okay Kasey, and that all will heal just fine. She was such a good sport when she came by yesterday to get Fiin, such a calm spirit even though she got hurt. The kids were drooling over Brianna's graham house...good job!

Kasey, i just happen to be a girl scout leader, no the kind who is clever enough to have the mom's host a project (though I think next year...) but I am the kind who is always caught digging up a project the day of our meeting. I am also the kind who is not above stealing adorable project ideas from other people. I love your peep houses and will be doing this project on Monday, which means I am nearly five days early on choosing an idea! Wooo-hooo!

What did you use to stick your houses together?

You may not craft but you are darn creative!!! Just like your cooking... your crafting can be done every once and a while to wow everyone but if you do it everyday "they will expect it." That's what I love about your blog, you never know what to expect.

I hope Lola feels better soon!

I know you didn't ask for advice, but in lieu of keep her out of the sun you can buy one of those sunscreen sticks and wipe it on there every morning. It just keeps the scarring down. I had to do that with my son where he had stitches on his face and now, a few years later, there's not a trace of those pesky stitches.

Oh, the poor little one. I have a photo of very similar abrasions to my 9 year old son's face, opposite eye. Eye swollen shut, deep scrapes and very happy to say not a single scar today. Toboggan and cousins hit ice would be the caption.

Anonymous said...

You might want to consider Mederma for Lola's abrasions. I had a similar incident myself when I was little. However, it involved a pine tree & my bike. I had abrasions only on one side but they extended from my forehead to my belly button! Love the peep houses. I'm going to have to try the grass now. My GF kept pointing it out to me this past weekend like it was the most hysterical thing she'd ever seen. I'm sure my 8 year old would love some in his basket this year!
