her mothers daughter....

This is her mothers daughter. She braved 20 degrees today with some light snowing so i could get some photo's of her. I mentioned a few weeks ago that i was taking some photo classes, and yesterday the class i took was getting to know my DSLR. I really just wanted to learn what my camera could do, a very basic class. Next month I'm taking an all day photoshop class, and that's what has me very excited.

Let me tell you the best advice i was given. It was from the lovely Mrs French {bliss}, who is a talented photographer, and has yet to take a class.

Anyway, she told me ..."don't get all wrapped up in the technical side of trying to take a photo, just focus on the beauty of what your taking, and everything will come into place."

So, "Thank you" Mrs French, i do believe I caught some beauty today.

snow day....

Today just did not start out very well.
First off, I got a phone call from the school at
6 a.m. stating that school was cancelled.
cancelled.
Yes, cancelled due to the weather, and today
is Friday, the Friday before the kids are off
from school for 2 weeks.
2 weeks.
cancelled due to 3 inches of snow.
I lived in Colorado, I know what snow is.
3 inches is not sufficient enough to cancel school.
Anyways,
I told the kids to go out back and play in the 3 inches of new snow,
so they got all bundled and headed out back.
Soon after, the neighbor and her little boy came over also.
Then I heard screaming.
I rushed out back, and saw blood, lots of blood.
And broken glass.
Apparently the large glass jar that I make iced tea & lemonade in
had been outside (i'm not going to name any names), taken out by
someone and left in the freezing cold to burst and break.
It had fallen beneath the 3 inches of snow.
Little Lola tripped and fell knee first on the broken edge of glass.
Everyone back inside, and off to E.R.
5 stitches.
1 xray.
And a wonderful friend who drove to the hospital to take my
boys home to her house,
so that I could spend the next 4 hours
with Lola.
Thank you school!

Welcome September...

Even though it's just the beginning of Sept., and here in Illinois, its still VERY warm, I love, love, love the Fall.
Really, who wouldn't love the slightly cooler temps, the shades of Autumn, the smells of pumpkin and cranberries?
I got this dress at Gap last weekend for Lola, and the hat is just like one I wear, so now we can dress alike.
Lola is not really a dress wearer, she's such a tomboy, but like her mom, can't pass up something so cute.
Happy September!

A window for Lola....

Everyone knows how i love taking an old window and
putting vintage sheet music, or vintage ephemera of any
kind, adding some Paris post cards, or my favorite, birds
and nest cards.

I happened across some vintage sheet music with the

title "Lolita", so once i found that, i knew a "Lola"

window was in the works.

I think this little blondie happens to resemble my Lola,

and then i stamped her name and birth date in vintage

market stamps that i sell here at the shop.

Last but not least, added a vintage scrabble letter, and a pearl

letter, with some vintage papers. And of course, a green bird hook

to hang one of her lovely dresses from.

Lola's birthday is this Saturday, though we are celebrating it tomorrow evening with all of her new friends. I think this will make a lovely birthday present!

Introducing the real "Lola"

This girl here, she's the real Lola.
She just left for a date with her dad to go to the
father~daughter dance at the local rec center.
What's so funny about this, is that Lola is not a girly
girl. She would rather be in jeans, but this morning she got
up and stated that she wanted a real dress for tonight.
Anyone that knows my Lola, knows she doesn't like dresses.
So, when we went shopping(last minute), she wanted a frilly dress. Well............................her idea of frilly is NOT my idea of frilly. So, we compromised, and here we are with a simple "fancy" dress.
Case closed.
I love her:)
