A room with a view...

I'm pretty lucky that one day a month....my home is clean enough to show you. It's unfortunate...

that it only lasts for one day.....the clean house that is.

This room is the room we call the sun room. When we bought the house a little over 2 years ago...it was just a screened in sun porch....pretty much a 3 season room. That's what people around here call screened in porches......a 3 season room.....silly....because normally it's so freakin humid here that no one wants to even sit outside in the summer...so why have a room that can only be used a few months out of the year?

After we bought the house....we gutted the room....piped in venting so that it's heated in the winter and cool in the summer.

This room is not only a sun room...but it's my office as well......and i love fall....because the gorgeous big tree out back is what i look at.
I love this room...it's perfect.

my desk is an old farm table that i tacked linen around.....pretty much so you can't see the junk that hides underneath.....seriously.....it's for your own good.

I love the look of painted wood floors.....yes.....we painted the wood floors white.....and yes they get dirty...but i love...love them. I'm really close to painting the floors upstairs......really close....but i'm getting talked out of it.....and somehow......I get talked out of a lot of things.....

so let me ask you your opinion.....

yes or no ?

I will then present the tally to the "person" that is talking me out it.

I might wear these glasses with my tooth fairy costume at Halloween.....gives my outfit a bit of ooomf!

I don't really know if that's really a word so don't call me when you try and use it on your next scrabble attempt and lose because you said......kasey used the word.....

ooomf.

I got that darling settee off of craigslist right after we moved in....a screaming deal...don't you love craigslist?

That concludes a tour of a room with a view. Do you see that hammock sitting so lonely in the back......yes...poor thing......the weather has been so crummy and i know it misses us. There is nothing better

than grabbing a big ole duvet....a good book....and climbing in that with a kid or two......

or even better......while the kids are at school......take a nap in it.

Just don't forget that you are in it while the kids are at school...then fall asleep.....

because that is so not cool when you fall asleep and forget and the kids get off the bus and can't

find you in the house.

nope.

not cool.

1. Your office/sun room room is lovely. My back porch is jealous of your windows..it would like a better view of its favorite tree in the backyard.

2. Unless your upstairs floors came with different sections in turquoise, blue, primer gray..and unstained wood like mine did...I wouldn't paint them.

3. I have an egg basket just like the one you have full of lovely things. Mine is black. Did you paint yours white?

4. I need to get back to my cookie and chocolate order for the shop. I hope that you have a lovely weekend!

ps The glasses are really cute!

You had me at the first picture. I just wanted to jump right in and curl up on your craigslist settee (I too love craigslist) and snuggle up with your adorable Barn House pillow). Then I saw your backyard complete with hammock. I would totally be out there napping when the kids came home. That would be so me.

Hi Kasey,
I have been fortune to have seen your absolutely wonderful, beautiful home in person. I covet that sunroom! Everything is perfection in that room as is with the rest of your home. I happen to love painted wood floors especially when the paint starts to wear off in the traffic patterns. I would like to paint mine too but have a certain someone{the hubs} who is dead set against it, thinks I am nuts. I am sure you know the feeling! Thanks for the tour again and for reminding me just how much I love your home.Take care.

Oh, your office/room with a view is so lovely! I just love everything about it! That settee is beautiful. How come I can never find anything like that on Craigslist? Love your big old tree in the backyard and hammocks really are the best! You just go ahead and paint those upstairs floors white, they look so lovely in white (although they are hard to hide dirt or pet hair). Thanks for sharing!

fabulous space. I love picturing you in your work zone now.

And yes...definitely paint those floors...just remind "a-hem" {no name} that majority rules...and well it looks like everyone has said yes:)
And those glasses how cute:)...I think falling asleep in that hammock would be wonderful...and I would do often...good thing you didn't show my hubby that:)

I vote yes for the painted floors -- ALL of our floors are painted here, VERY LIGHT cream! So, I'm feeling ya with that struggle with dirt issue and add to the mix a huge dog with BLACK hair, but I love the look.
Let's just say Swiffer has made a large chunk of change off me! :)

Go for it!!

can i sit a spell in your room with a view and have some wine.. you wont know i'm there,

Hmm..I'd hate to cause a ruckus with you & the "person" but if your trim is white the floors definetly need to be too! {& if your trim isn't... maybe it should be :)} & next time you are lounging in the hammock take your ol laptop out there & check out Craigslist for me! I would pay some good money for a settee like that :)!

Well... you know I'd lose that battle around here... yet, you're the woman so you should get an extra nesting vote just because of that. So basically your vote counts for two, and if you say white, it should be done. So clean and pretty...

What a tour! A+++++ for making that so much fun for me to read.... and I am in favor of the painted wood floors. Seriously. Dirty, clean, whatever...loving the white on white on white.

I, too, had a 3 season room in my house and living in Wisconsin we only have two seasons... Winter and almost Winter (I'm exaggerating) so mine was also turned to an all season with baseboard heating. Your room looks so much better though, I may need to do a little copycatting since I'm in love with it... thanks again for the tour, hopefully painted floors WILL PREVAIL! xoxoxo

Jeesh! Your talent is sick woman...I love your house. I'd have to say though on the wood floors I'd have to see the upstairs floors before making a decision as to whether or not to paint them. I love the look of the painted floors, but I couldn't make myself paint them. It would feel so permanent and then if I ended up not liking them...yada yada yada.

I love the look of the painted floors, but the upkeep, especially in high traffic areas, isn't so easy. Paint scratches and wears easily. Lots of foot traffic, shoes, pets, etc. seem to take their toll quickly. But go for it - it's YOUR house, too! Becky

Jacqueline @ HOME said...

Oh yes Kasey....paint them. Who cares if they get a bit dirty. I just go around saying that it's 'shabby chic' !!!! You can get away with so much if you call it 'shabby chic' !!!!
Your house looks wonderful. Have just painted three rooms in Farrow and Ball off whites with a little bit of grey and are now in the process of putting it all back again and it all needs a good clean....YUK.
How lovely to work in that room and look out onto your garden......oh, and why is it that you clean and tidy a room and it's back looking untidy again within a few hours ? XXXX

I ADORE your room, Kasey! So fab and wonderful. Lucky you. As for the white floors, that is one of my most favourite things, but I don't have any yet. I'm going to start with the bathroom in the farmhouse and go from there. So you're way ahead of me - you absolutely NEED to keep going. Yes, I guess dirt is a problem, but, we NEED white floors, they are the ultimate if you ask me. p.s. your setee and pillow are to-die-for!

1. you are really funny.
2. no, do not paint the floors..if you end up HAVING TO, for some reason, I would go back to a wood color.

You are adorable!! I LOVE all of the white. And,...YES to the floors. Yes yes yes yes!!! Do you think that you can count that as 5 votes??

Rue said...

First... that sunroom of yours in magazine worthy Kasey. I love every. single. inch of it.

That said and I think you know what my thoughts are...

The only reason I would ever paint original wood flooring is if it was so damaged there was no other way. Yes, I love the way it looks in your sunroom, but unless you plan on living in that house forever and taken out feet first, it's a bad idea to do more than one or two rooms.

If my speech doesn't stop you (and you don't hate me after saying all that), come look at ours when we're finished and tell me it wasn't worth all the dirt, dust and fumes to make them beautiful again and that we should have just painted them. ;)

Now, I'm outta here before I get tomatoes thrown at me.... yikes!

Ugh. Life is crazy... sorry it took me so long to comment...

LOVE the sette. Love it. I always thought it would be amazing to have a big eat-in kitchen with a big distressed farm table and a sette just like that on one side. After all, we all love to eat at booths at restaurants, right? Why not be that comfy at home. Except my babies are 1 and 4, so I think I might revisit this idea quite a few years from now.

I love painted floors, too. Our first home was 5 min. from Lake Michigan. It was 100 years old, too, and I painted our 3 season porch floor a green and white checker board. I put our red velvet chase out there, pumkins and gourds, and mums in a big rusted urn. I miss it. {Did I write this in a comment already; I'm having deja vu.} However, as much as I love painted white floors, if your existing floors are a nice wood, I say NO. Why? I have hardwood through our whole first floor and the maintenance is so easy. Painted white floors would be a bit of a bear to maintain over a large space, IMO. Let me know what you decide... :)
