family moments....

Let me tell you right now....i am not a fly by the seat of my pants type of girl.

I like routine.

I like organization.

I like a plan.

I actually have my planner sitting right next to me here at my desk.

So when we woke up on Monday morning.....i said aloud......let's go up to Wisconsin....to a lake for

the day.

whaaaaaaaat.

did that just come out of my mouth?

me.....not have it planned and written down.....

so we flew around...gathered swimsuits and packed some lunches....

and headed north....

We spent all day at the lake.......reading books......building sand castles....swimming out to the dock...

{actually...i didn't swim out to the dock.......somethings...i just don't do....}

but the kids and bryan swam out to the dock.....and jumped...and dived.

It was a fabulous end to what most consider the end of summer.

My unplanned....unorganized self.......

my house is still a disaster......the suits are still wet on the floor......but i let myself go for a bit....

and in the car my children thanked us......

thanks mom and dad.....that was a great day.

I even thought on the way home that i indeed need a lake front cottage......nothing big or fancy....just someplace that we can take our kids every summer.....

with friends.......

and maybe a boat.....

now i'm getting carried away.

Have you ever seen the movie "the family stone"? That's what i envision my home being like....lots of noise and fun....and being who we are meant to be.....

except....put that house on a lake....with a boat on the dock out back.

That's not to much to ask for is it?

xo.

{Thank you so much for all the well wishes for my mom...she is finally home from the hospital..and i am going to print out the post with all of your comments and pop it in the mail to her....}

oh...and my pics were taken with my iphone...because someone...i'm not naming any names...left the battery charging in the charger for the camera.

You must come visit me in Minnesota! We live in a house, by a lake, with a beach, and a boat....and like you, I don't swim in the lake....I have lived here for two summers now and have only been as far as my knees into the lake. I don't even swim off the boat, or tube or wakeboard...but I make a mean gin & tonic for anyone who is on the boat and would like to enjoy one with me (not the kids!). Glad you momma is better...reading the post you did about her will make her feel even better. Have a great day Kasey!

When do you know it's time to move on and buy another camera? :)

I'm glad to hear your mom is feeling better. I think your trip to the lake was a wonderful idea!!! Monday evening rolled around and I started feeling ho hum wishing I would have just taken my kids to the lake. I love the family life in The Family Stone. I also like how it is Dan in Real Life. That's exactly how I want it to be when my kids grow up.

So glad to hear about your mom...your beach trip looks amazing...the best times for me are always the ones unplanned...so sometimes it's a blessing to be a fly by the seat of your pants kidda gal! .....sometimes...I am more the planning type as well!

Glad to hear your mom is better! My boys love when we spend time at the lake. I think it's great that you were spontaneous. I love to just jump in a car and drive to anywhere I feel like at the moment. I am seriously thinking of doing that for your Oct. 3 home event- all the way from Louisiana-is that crazy??? Maybe, but that's me!

LOVE the family stone!! I want a big home with grown up children chaos that all stems from love...but that means I have to have 4 more kids and the fact is, one still freaks me out. CONGRATS on doing something so spontaneous! That is hard for me to do!

I'm a structured routine kind of gal, too...how wonderful it must have been to "just let go" for the day! Sounds like a good day for the whole family:) P.S. So glad you're Mom is better and back home again:) Hugs...

And see...I'm going to "let go" and not fix that typo in my 1st comment:)

What a perfectly lovely day. Thanks for sharing this! Love the spontaneity of it all. Once had a friend who would actually schedule spontaneity. Guess you do what you gotta.
Happy Fall to you!

What a wonderful lake day!Sometimes the very best things can happen via the unexpected.

Those are the best kind of days! Sounded like so much fun.

We ended up being at the Mall of America for 2 days. Not fun! Anyway everyone here has a cabin and a boat, but us. So it must be the thing to do.

You can't plan days like that, really. So glad it worked out so perfectly for you all. Love that the kids thanked you. That makes the messy house and wet suits all way okay.

I too love a plan; my daughter calls me 'monica'(from Friends)but I have to admit some of the best days are when you let go and fly by the seat of your pants; looks like this was one of those days :O)

Glad to hear your Mum's feeling better. x

As another organized list making gal about town on time I say brava to you for throwing it all away.
When the Godkids lived with me I'd call those throw away days: I threw it all away & we did something wacky or new. A few times I pulled out the Michigan map closed my eyes & wherever the finger landed that's where we went.
Once when it landed south on the tabke we went to Toledo.
The best days are throw away days.

how fun!! i love the idea of being organized, but i just can't do it!! lol....i'm all about life on a whim

Kasey soo glad your Mom is better and at home! Sometimes "randomness" and just letting go make for the best memories...this coming from a "control freak"! Looking forward to seeing you and your sweet friends at CL!

LuLu said...

Good for YOU!!! I'm learning the hard way that flying by the seat of your pants with kiddos and trips is the way to go!!!
and I'm seeing the cottage on the lake thing in your future!!! I am!!!

Kasey, I am so thankful that your Mama is home. My kindergartener just told me this morning that her friends Mom died. My heart has been so heavy since hearing that news. Makes me want to make even more cherished memories with my kiddos. Have a beautiful day:-0

I LOVE THE FAMILY STONE..wave your freak flag!!!!!!
And I SO get you...so very very much...all of it...
the PLAN...being ORGANIZED...I have written many times that I am not a gal who easily ROLLS WITH...and yet, when girls like us do something like this...the lake...isn't it amazing to find that the world did not crumble while we were being so unorganized????? In fact, it usually pans out to be a beautiful memory.

And I too picture a home, on a lake, or actually, on the ocean...kids barefoot all day long, and lots and lots of family, and noise and laughter. I'll even take the family part, minus the ocean...but that ocean would be nice.

I want...I need some of those clock faces thinga majigs...got any for sale? Are you going to Round Top Texas by any chance?

What a great day. You should rent a cottage for a few weeks a year. You would have so many great choices around you. Somtime you would like heading up to Door County.

Brigetta Schwaiger said...

I am such a planner too- but, that day just sounds fabulous.

Sarah said...

I am so bummed you hit WI when I am in Kansas City! Your next jaunt you have to let me know and we will meet up! So glad the kids had a great time! Where did you end up going?

I have to say that some of our best family memories came when we jumped out of our box and did something on the spur of the moment! Kids love it and get to see a more spontaneous side of us that doesn't reveal itself often!

So glad to hear that your mom is home from the hospital! Wishing her a very speedy recovery!! :)
