anticipation....

Do you remember a few weeks ago i painted my kitchen my newest fav color... pale Swedish grey?

Do you also remember the post in which i said how i detest my kitchen cabinets?

It's been a big debate whether to paint the beautiful cherry cabinets or to keep them. The nice couple that owned the home before us, did an amazing job with this 100 year old home.......except in the kitchen. They updated it tooooo much. A farmhouse in which they painted all the molding white, every door in the home white, the trim, the walls, it screamed......cottage farmhouse. UNTIL you got into the kitchen.

Cherry cabinets, black quartz counters and black appliances.

not at all farmhouse cottage, but urban with a bit of contemporary.

yuck.

Then i took over....

I've had to wait almost 2 years to be able to do what i wanted in this kitchen.........

I got 3 estimates to have the cabs painted. 2 were out of my range, and the last guy came in and saved my day.....

the kitchen is tiny, but it has a ton of cabs.......all i could see is cherry........

part of the reduced "price" was myself taking off all the doors and hardware.....

what a task i tell ya.....

I know what you're thinking..................spaghettio's, kraft mac n cheese, cake mix in a BOX......... you know i can see you enlarging the images just to see what's in the cabinets!!!

I know this is the part where you are going to kill me.

my doors are not up yet, but i just had to show you the process.

don't hate me...........

I will post the "finale" on Wednesday or Thursday..............

it'll be good ....

i promise.....and i might even show you where i hide the cheeto's!

xo

Oh, I can relate! Our kitchen looks alot like yours right now. Cabinet doors off and our golden oak painted cream. We have been working on this kitchen for over 1 yr...it's taking so long due to our super hectic schedules but hope to get it done before the mid of June!

Can't wait to see it. I did the same thing with my cabinets. Got a really good deal too. Only problem was the painter was like the guy in Murphy Brown. He came on his days off from his regular job, spent a couple of hours faux finishing, then went home. Needless to say it took three months. It has been 4 years now and I still love it. Now I've got to go check out the rest of your blog and see the other pictures of your home. I have a hint that it quite lovely!

Can't wait to see them all painted up!! We painted our oak cabinets a few years ago. Actually, my Dad did it for us while me and my hubby were on a weekend trip to Chicago...he he. He did a great job!! I wasn't blogging then so taking a before picture wasn't on my mind. It is amazing what a difference paint can do for a room.

oh can't wait to see how it all comes out. Was that the painter on the phone telling hiis buddy..darn it I should have charged her more...there are way too many cabinets in this kitchen! HA~ Happy Sunday Kasey!

Hello Kasey,
I wait with baited breath to see the final redo of your kitchen. I can understand your desire to paint perfectly good cabinets. I did the same thing except mine were a 1950's blonde or golden oak and it was just too much- we painted the doors only and actually left a rectangle border of the blonde on each door. I came out rather Danish modern but we really love it.
Hugs,
Penny

It looks amazing. Truly. And yes, i blew up every image to see inside your cabs. Better than looking through the medicine cabinet if you ask me. I'm so happy that you have bright colored plastic kid stuff just like me. Mixed in with teacups and ironstone. Yay!

That is so exciting Kasey! I know that you are going to be so happy that you went for it. I love white kitchens so much! How did you go about finding someone who paints cabinets? I'd love to know for future reference.

Faded Plains said...

That's too funny! I too live in an old farmhouse (1890) and when we purchased the home it had beautiful solid maple cabinets and black granite counter tops. Well, of course with everything else in my home being shades of white, the kitchen seemed SO out of place. So, with brush in hand, I painted the cabinets white myself. I can't tell you what a wonderful difference it made. I'm sure you'll love the results.

Carolyne said...

Oh, the anticipations is too much! How could you do this to us?!!

I love that you have betrothed your son!! How cute is that?!

I just love white cabinetry. We had ugly old builder's grade oak, however, so I didn't have nearly the quandary that you did. I just painted away..and now I love them! Can't wait to see your final product!

Heidi said...

WOW! I am dying to paint our gross oak kitchen cabinets in my kitchen white, but i have a hubby who is skeptical...I can't wait to see your 'after' pics! I KNOW its gonna look great, and i must say for all that hard work you are doing, the inside of your cabinets look so organized and nice!

Mandy Ford Art & Illustration said...

I can already tell that it is going to look a million times better! We just moved from a bungalow that had awful dark stained cabinets in the kitchen. We remodeled and added white cabinets and appliances and it made all the difference. And now we just moved into a 1960's bi-level with horrible oak cabinets...bring on the white paint! Can't wait to see the finished result!
