my date with a fireman...

I hate to toot my own horn, but the reality is.....i receive many awards in the mothering department. I also hate to disappoint ladies like "Pioneer woman" and "dooce", but it's just the truth. I love to bake cookies with the children....so much so, that yesterday as i was wallowing in my "life defining moment", i grabbed my favorite box of oatmeal cranberry cookies from Trader Joe's. I always keep a box of them in the freezer for those moments of baking with the children......

....so we opened the bag of already rolled and ready to put out on the cookie sheet....when i heard the sound of a fire truck.........hmmmm.....i thought to myself as i looked around the kitchen and noticed NO children were helping me bake cookies.....strange i thought............it sounded like the fire truck was right outside my front door........i better take a look........

.....and still no children.......but then another fire truck pulled up.......

...I had a feeling that the award i was supposed to receive this evening ......was not going to happen....

.....and instead was indeed going to "pioneer woman"....... Can i ask you now.....why..oh..why....

do kids like to take the phone and hide in the closet to crank call 911?....and why do they yell...

FIRE.....and hang up....

why?.....

.....thank GOD they didn't say.....my mom has a belt in her hands and she's going to beat me....no....
thank goodness they didn't say that......

....so my lovely readers....i am so sorry to have to forfeit my lovely award this year.....i guess i can try again next year?.....

SHUT! UP! Are you SERIOUS????????

I think your kids & I would get along great! That just sounds too funny! I know...when you think about it, its probably not good to tie up firemen when they might be needed at another job... But you gotta admit. That was a good one! Tell those kiddos Miss Ruth just high-fived them! :)

BTW, did you at least give the poor guys the cookies? Pretty good timing -- fresh-baked cookies upon arrival... Hey! That sounds like a plan! Start baking cookies and right about when they're ready to come out of the oven, summon the firemen and then present them with a plate of the goodies as you say "Oops! False alarm!" :)

Hon, posts don't get any better than this one. Really, they don't. :)

Hi to those kids for me!

Ruth

Well, in truth, you probably didn't have the belt in hand until after you discovered their little prank ;)

OMG, kids!!! You reminded me of the time my 1 yr old was playing with the phone while I was trying to make dinner, he dialed 911 and they sent police to my house to make sure we were ok, they wouldn't believe me that he was only 1 and couldn't talk to them on the phone! So embarrassing and funny at the same time!

Oh my gosh! Are you really serious? That's awful. I feel for you.

I don't understand how this might be considered a bad thing. In my book, any reason to hang out with FIREMEN (shy of having an actual...fire)is A-0K. I'm always coming up with reasons to drop by the station and say it's because my son loves it. Actually? He couldn't care less. That Firefighter Birthday Party? My idea. That Firefighter Halloween Costume? My idea. We live right around the corner from a firehouse, which worried me when we first moved in (endless sirens going off in the middle of the night and such), but then I realized that almost every day in the summer they all hang out outside the station washing the engine. Oh yeah. Firemen, water, muscles. Sigh. Sorry, I digressed...

Charity Watts said...

LOL!...I guess the award is going to be passed to me now...cause my 4 kiddos would NEVER do anything like that ;-)

I bet it wasn't funny at the time...but that is sooooooooo funny now :) Thanks for sharing such a funny story today.

Now go bake some more yummy frozen medallions with the children. hugs :)

So...trying NOT to laugh! This is too funny, and yet I know if this happend to me...my kids would be very afraid...very...once they saw I had put on my angry eyes...they would be running! Oh, Kasey, I have come to the conclusion that kids just make our lives so much more interesting and exciting! What great memories you will have and stories to tell your grandkids one day! Have a great weekend!

Hugs,
~Victoria~

I am not going to lie...I think your kids have a lot in common with ME. In SF the firemen are HOT and my roommates and I would call them at the drop of a hat just to see them...ok maybe not the drop of a hat, but let's just say we weren't upset when the flat below us was smoking or when we had a mini electrical fire in the wall and had to have the fire dept. out to see us :)

this is not april 1st, so it must be true????
aaaaaaack.
this has nothin' to do with parenting...just curious kids!
also, i bake these similar cookies from kroger, their brand and love them.......{calorie free!}

ok, that is downright funny, i'm laughing out loud and glad that it was you and not me! what in the world did the fireman say? thanks for the laugh!

Janelle said...

Oh my goodness. Well you're not the only one. My oldest whenn he was 5 decided to call when I was in the shower. The phone kept ringing and I was getting annoyed by it. When I got out, I answered it and it was the fire dept. I knew then what had happened. Then I looked out the window and the truck wass there. They were knocking on the door and I said I was dripping wet as I had just gotten out of the shower. I asked if I could get dressed first and they said, "MAM, OPEN UP THE DOOR." So I did and was so embarrassed. Hair dripping wet with a towel wrapped around me, 9 months prego I might add, and of course they were hunks. Communication was pretty much non-verbal and they willing left. I'm sure they wanted to make sure mom was "normal" and that my child was o.k.

Moral of the story...Think twice before teaching your kids 911.

Kasey said...

I love that you picked up the camera to photograph the fire trucks!

christy said...

get out! That is too funny! I could so see my own son doing this. His idea of an "emergency" is still not fine tuned. Too funny! Thank you for sharing!

LOL!!! There must be a theme this week!!!! You won't believe what my son did two days ago!!!
I was talking with my 10 year old son and I hear my 5 year old son blubber out Fire loudly. Surely not! But his tone made me take it seriously, I flew up the stairs to discover my bathroom trash can in flames and my son with his pants around his ankles crying and saying "I'm sorry mom!!"
My reflexes sucked, but I knew I couldn't leave the room to get the extinguisher so the 5oz disposable cups eventually saved the day with their spit of water on the blazes. Thankfully, other than the Target trash bag being cremated nothing was hurt!!! Amazing!!! Thankfully we just happen to have a metal trashcan in the bathroom....and uhm I am not lighting candles during the day anymore! :)

Sweetie i know just how you feel. I've been here many of times and they're only 5 & 6. I've had both the firemen and police at my door :( How do we say it's the children?
Given the situation i don't think they think it's too funny. But hey it happens to ALL of us.
~I love that you captured the moment with your camera~

Oh the joys of parenting. I have two stories along those lines so I can commiserate with you. It's scary and frustrating all at the same time. And yes...I could relate with the desire to pull out the belt... It's a lesson they have hopefully learned and a stunt they NEVER pull again....

Oh, no! ha,ha...good times!

One time Kaishon called 911 when we were at the post office on a pay phone. I didn't even notice him using the pay phone. I had the police man scare him. I don't think he will ever call 911 again. Unless it is an emergency!
