girl who loves boxes...

Bon Appetit!

{sorry..i know it's a weird thing to start the week off with...but i just finished reading Julia Childs book...'My life in France' }

I don't know how i got thru this weekend but i did.

Apparently..... my husband needed a break and lucky for him...i gave him one. Lollapalooza came into Chicago on Friday eve....so Bryan and his buddies spent all weekend there....and he is expected to return monday evening after work......

i hope his key still works.....

hopefully I am still here.... and have not run off with the mail man....

my mailman is a mix between matthew fox and jude law......{that's the word with the neighbor girls.....}

and all of those neighbor girls here on my street are somehow ALWAYS home between the delivery hours of 2-3 p.

{do i hear you daring me to get a picture of him??}

It's a good thing i'm happily married.

yup...good thing.

Anyways....sorry.....i always seem to get off track....

One thing i tend to covet and hoard....are hatboxes......and not just hatboxes....but travel cases as well....so if you have one that you just don't want...feel free to send it to me...{that might give me a reason to invite my mailman in for a glass of lemonade.....}

It seem like i have been finding these cases and boxes everywhere.......

Collecting is sort of like a covert operation......at least in my home. I feel like an undercover agent working varied hours and totally on the sly.

I have to do things SLOWLY and not risk the fact that i am being watched.

so s.l.o.w.l.y.

so very c.a.r.e.f.u.l.l.y

because if the general finds out that his soldier is in fact digging new trenches....

oh....

let's not go there......

because my blog might go from "one girl talks" to.....

"one girl who lives out of her mini van while eating ding dongs".

I know i am not the only one who covets and hoards....

i read your blogs......and see the small collections you have going.....

and i love them.

Do tell...what is your favorite little collection at the moment??

oh...and shall i get you a picture of the mailman for you??

xo

I am loving your collection, especially the grey's. Your postman sounds cute. I do dare you to get a pic :)
Right now it is books and pictures that I am really interested in. And 1940's stuff ~ loving that.

What a gorgeous collection you have. I'll be waiting on that mailman pic :) Too cute that the girls are home between those hours.

Love the boxes and the Suitcases are Divine! I hoard, old silver, mostly service wear and of course old rhinestone, I could give the queen a run for her money! I'm really wanting a few old suitcases for my bedroom, soon as the spawn go back to school it's on my flea market find list! Hey, did I miss the Country Living article? In typical Jamie fashion, a day late and dollar short!

Lovin your collection! :) I have a thing for vintage luggage and steam trunks...as well as vintage windows and shutters.

We have had 3 different postmen in the last year...all of which have been extremely unpleasant...and not as, how shall I say...attractive, as yours appears to be. ;) SO, I guess that means that I'm with the others and would love to see a pic of your postman.

Ok...I have seen your mailman and he is NOT hot...unless there is a new man on the street...we need to talk;-) Love the new mirrors and the hat boxes too.

Hand Fans... I mean I have zero right now...but doesn't sound like a beautiful collection!?! You know the kind that have an eye capturing print that you flip open quickly lay back in your seat on the porch and roll your eyes as though you have had the longest day when the gorgeous mailman walks by... oh wait I have a mail woman...hummm...

Sheila said...

You are way to FUNNY, I have been telling my friends about you and how cute your blog is... I am into my vintage tiaras, cameras and clocks right now. I have about 30 of each in my collections and of course I still need more ;)

Lucky girl. My mail person is a scary lady that talks on her cell phone and chomps on candy...and litters the wrappers up and down the streets... sigh.
Please get a snapshot, so we can all live vicariously...
Happy Monday.

Matt Fox and Jude Law...Yum! I'm single...I triple dog dare you to take his picture. (unless Jeanne is right and he is not hot) There is a pretty cute mailman the next town over, but we don't have mail delivery in my town. We do have a mayor who drives his lawnmower down the street past my house...but that is a different story...

: )

ps Is that round case blue samsonite? My mom received that set as a high school graduation gift from her parents. The trunk case has always been my favorite piece. She didn't get the round one though...very cute! I love boxes too!

pps The verification word for this comment is, "rumpo." Lovely!

We used to have that round blue suitcase, lol! It was the official sleeping overnight at our girlfriends house suitcase. And, of course, you MUST get a pix of Mr. Hottie Mailman. Definitely. As for collections, I have a few, but my latest have been lanterns.

Smiles to you.

Your "collection" and your photos are beautiful! I would like to see a pic of the mailman. We used to have a gorgeous mailman....he used to stop and chat with everyone - especially the ladies. He was put on a new route :( I'm sure the old man up the street complained because his mail was always late......

Hmmm...
Collections sounds old & mildewy :)
I like to tell myself that I don't
have any but...there seems to be an awful lot of "things" around here like..vintage cake plates, ribbons {of course I WILL use them}
& letters {any kind , any font!}...
Here's to a great week & lots of down time :) --Surely you deserve it! :)

Oh, I love the cases on the bed and the box on the bench. I wish I had some good places around here to find wonderful things like that. I am collecting right now, vintage millenery, ribbon, old books(always), vintage sheet music and ledgers and vintage cameras. I am always on the look-out for white dishes as well. Especially those with a little something special.

I want to see that mailman!

Good morning Kasey :)

Gorgeous bedroom! I have a thing for white bedding... nothing else will do. Darling hat boxes too.

I've been obsessed with little and big ben clocks for a long time. I don't what it is about them, but I have a hard time resisting them even if they don't work.

BTW, we finally sold the house and the cottage will be ours on Wednesday :)

love your collection! I am kicking myself for convincing my mom she should get rid of her "old" suitcase when I was in middle school. Why oh why did she listen to me?!

Leah C said...

I think I'm addicted to colecting & hoarding:) I like to collect old bottles, skeleton keys, vintage jewelry, mercury glass Christmas ornaments, & white ironstone...just to name a few!
P.S. I'm thinking I might forward all my mail to your neighborhood;)

Michelle Hughes said...

Oh I have an obsession of the month or quarter, depends on how fast I find an item. Mr Hughes always says "thank goodness you found that so you can stop talking about it." and "If you buy this, will you stop talking about it." Yesterday I found 2 creamy white leather (?) suitcases. I have been thinking about those for about 4 months now. I was even going to try painting some white. I still might!

Love white milk glass. Lately, been picking up baby ben clocks, silver, old windows, vintage suitcases.

No such luck with my mailman. Now, the UPS man, that's a different story!

Claudia said...

Oh yes, I have my little hidden collections - books, but lately - rose paintings. My husband actually said - "no more flowers, okay?" So I have to find new and crafty ways to hide them yet display them. Wish me luck. Oh, and McCoy...but that's a bit easier to deal with.

Can we see your mailman?

Miss B said...

I loved the post from your husband--HILARIOUS, especially the part of 'why does everything have to be all white,,'

Laurel said...

Oh please do! If this mailman is anything like the fireman or that boy who lives in his airstream I'd be delighted to double dog dare you! I have many many books and a bell collection that my mother started for me when I was little. As for my other collections, I think my hubs would say shoes, clothes, and dishes! Thanks for keeping me laughing.

Kim G. said...

I read My Life in France when it was first published and loved it. I think you should indeed get a shot of the mail man, tell him it's for your child who wants to be a mailman one day or some absurd lie. Maybe tell him you want to nominate him for mail man of the year with the postal service and the application requires a photo. Head shot and full body shot of course.

mimi charmante said...

these days, it seems to be kitchen scales, clocks, vintage cameras, frogs (of the floral variety), mismatched silver, and white linen napkins. after visiting the bh boys, I am all about the collections.

Are you selling at the Country Living Fair this year?
