i've read about them......
i've heard friends talk about them....
but i've never hosted one nor have i ever been to one.
All that changed tonight.
apparently...the deal is...
one couple hosts an evening....
with the hosting couple doing everything....
from wine to dinner...to dessert.
I suppose you could have your children there...but in my case...
i guess i just needed a break...
you see..Mason has been home most of the week with Chicken pox.
{yes...he was vaccinated}
Did you know that kids need 2 vaccines? .....
uggh.
well....the doctor never double checked his records....so here we were on Tuesday...and Mason came in
from playing outside...complaining that he was itchy.
grrr.
so i told him......well....that's what you get for rolling around in those worm infested leaves.
Holy crepes { i totally could have said something else..}........
he took his shirt off and blisters all over his torso....
and of course....me being a *retired nurse* and all...just had to look at those puppies
to determine that indeed....it was
chicken pox.
where was i????
oh yes....
dinner club..
I needed a little bitty break from the kid....
so i got my sitter to take the kids to Chucky {vomit} cheese.
The original plan was for me to spend the day cooking a lovely meal for the 5 couples i invited over for dinner....
but as luck would have it....
my cleaners canceled on friday....which meant i had to spend the morning cleaning...
thus....
no time for cooking.
don't get me wrong.....dinner was still fabulous.
we dined on eggplant Parmesan....fresh field greens with Gorgonzola ....linguine with pesto and pine nuts...
and finished dinner off with some fabulous french petite desserts.
I just want to say a big thank you to Maggiano's for totally taking my call at last minute and pulling the order together for me.
eeek.
Back to the idea of Sunday evening dinner club.......
one sunday a month...a couple hosts it...and does everything....
then it switches to another couple the next month.
We get a night out....only paying for a sitter....and have a fabulous time mingling with friends.
That my friends is what a Sunday evening dinner club is all about.
xo
* oh yes...the retired nurse statement. I indeed used to work in pediatrics...and have not in about 7 years. I was the one in the office that gave your children their vaccines....and froze their warts off...and started their i.v.'s...
yup....that was me...
and i totally remember you moms giving me the evil eye as i did these things...
oh yes i do....

I love that I just learned that you were a nurse!! That is AWESOME!
Dinner clubs are really fun. We have a few, but kids are always around. I guess I never thought about sending them away. I'm going to do that...yes indeed.
Your house is beautiful! The dinner club sounds like fun! Good food, great friends, an evening of mingling...yeah that would be my kind of fun :)

Your home is beautiful I could almost smell the feast. I just started a pared down version with my 2 adult children...we meet at someones house every Sunday night alternating houses....now that they've flown the coup and family dinners are scarce this is a great way to reconnect.....love it!
How fun!!! We used to do a dinner club...much smaller than 5 couples...but it was fun...and I hope Mason is doing better! Sounds like a lovely time and much more gorgeous than mine:)
Looks and sounds fabulous!!
Happy Birthday Day sweet friend.
I love the idea of a dinner club but I think it would be fun to do the traveling kind where you go to a different house for each course.
How fun! We did a dinner club a few years ago and loved it. The Maggiano's solution was brilliant!
Your house looks AWESOME!! Soooo pretty!!
Hope your sweet kiddo is feeling better this week... :)

My husband and I are in a loosely knit supper club with 3 other couples. Everyone brings their own wine, one couple. Everyone brings their own wine, one couple appitizers, one couple salad, one couple dessert and the hosting couple the main entree. We meet about every 6-8 weeks and have a blast. Our last dinner was Julia inspired. Everyone made a Julia Childs dish and us gals all wore our pearls (like in the movie!).
The host sounds like they have a lot to do in your group but hey if that works that's terrific.
Hey my birthday-girl friend...looks like you had a lovely dinner after all.
And hey, I didn't know you did the whole nurse thing. Learn something new about you everyday! ;-)
The dinner club sounds like a lot of fun! Chickenpox, not so much. Both my daughters have been vaccinated, but for the life of me, I can't remember if they rec'd 2 shots. Eeek! I better go check...
Sounds fun... way to work it on the fly!
Have an awesome (birth) day!!
Looks like it was a lovely evening! I wanted to see your Anthro dress though! Hope you have a wonderful birthday Kasey!
Jill
i LOVE the idea of a dinner club!!!
How awesome.
Will definitely be running that by Mr. M tonight!!!
I know all about the "evil eye."
I'm an ER nurse so I get my fair share from moms too.
Can I please take a nap in your house sometime? You won't even know I'm there. Promise.
Oh, your home is so dreamy. How I wish I could come to dinner club in your home!
lol on the nurse comments.
and yum to the food you "made" haha.
Love it! glad you had a great time!

Love your home!! I'm sure dinner was fabulous!
We just hosted our "Supper Club" this past weekend. We have 5 couples, but the host couple only chooses a theme and makes the main course. Each couple then brings something. Not too much work for anyone.
Our theme Saturday was "Comfort Food".
Sounds fabulous my friend - I am sure it was a glorious evening.
Have a fantastic birthday!!!
xx
So fun! I have wanted to start one up, too. Everything looks beautiful!
xo,
Adrienne
Dinner club sounds fabulous! Another thing to add to my list for when my boys are a bit older. I don't know how you accomplish all you do!
Hope Mason is feeling better.
that sounds heavenly!
your house looks lovely
hope your little one if feeling better.......
I was reading your food list, being very impressed, and then I got to the Maggiano's part and bursted out laughing. It's totally something I would do! But, the question is... did you own up or did you try to sell it as your own? Haha. Hope Mason feels better soon!
You never cease to amaze me Kasey... A nurse? Really? Call me impressed.
The food sounds wonderful, even if you didn't make it ;)
I'm sorry about Mason getting Chicken Pox. I had them twice. Yuck!
Oh and I'm always here sweet friend, just busy.... missed you too :)
xoxo,
rue

As always...you have such a way with your words! Sounds so fun. Not the chickenpox, of course.
Blessings,

I am SO MAD.
I almost bought those planter pots with the numbers at Anthro yesterday.
But then I thought..what would I use them for?
Now I know.
Damn.
Should have gotten them.
KASEY - I can totally see you being a peds nurse....OHMYGOSH - you would be the best. All business, with a great sense of humor - making the parents laugh and at ease as you started the i.v....
We were in a supper club a few years ago that fizzled away - and now we're in a new one that we just started one a week from last sunday!
Happy Birthday, sweet friend....!
xoxoxo
Sorry to hear your little guy got chix pox, but your dinner club sounds fabulous! I love your decor in your home, so shabby chic and fabulous! Thanks for sharing pictures and the like. Now it sounds so much more simple, like this is something we could actually do! :)
Poor little Mason! Hope he's feeling better soon.
LOVE your home...yes I do...AND your dinner night sounds lovely! Glad you had such a fab time. :)
Smiles,
Rachel
LOL you remember the evil eye huh? I thought I hid that well...
Your food looked amazing even it you ordered out. I would have believed you did it yourself if you had told me you did!
Love the idea of a dinner club! It looks and sounds so yummy!
Poor Mason; I hope he gets better soon :O)
A Dinner Club; what a fab idea!

i guess my invite got lost in the mail! ha! sounds wonderful! i was just telling my husband that we need to invite people over for dinner! hope your little one gets better soon!
ugh!!!! poor little guy!!! BUT...THE DINNER CLUB...I AM LOVING THAT IDEA!!! MY SISTER DOES SOMETHING SIMILAR WITH GIRLS NIGHT IN. THEY HAVE A DIFF THEME AND A DIFF TYPE OF DRINK SERVED ONCE A MONTH AT A DIFF GIRL'S HOUSE. EITHER WAY....LOVE IT!
My husband and I would love to do something like this. It just sounds so fun!
That was you?!? :) You have such a beautiful house! If my house looked like that I'd entertain all the time. ;)
xo
p.s. sorry your dealing w/ chicken pox. not fun...
What a great concept....I don't care who cooks it as long as it is not me and your dinner sounded totally delish, xv.
Would love to come over for Sunday Night Supper Club at your house, Kasey. That would be so lovely...
Dinner Club - It sounds wonderful! Your house looked gorgeous and the food sounded delicious!!! Hope your fella is feeling better :)
What a beautiful blog!! :)
I'm glad he's feeling better now. I'm sure that trip to CC was great for the kids. When we go, I scrub them raw afterwards. lol
I'm not such a big fan of that vax, my son didn't get it at all and my girls only had one. Oops, probably shouldn't have said that to a nurse. Are we still friends?
Anyway, your dinner sounds lovely. We're thinking of doing a progressive dinner on our block, where we would switch houses for each course. I think it would be fun.
~Michelle
What a fun idea! I am still trying to get over how awesome your house looks in the photos! LOVE your home!
What a fun idea! I am still trying to get over how awesome your house looks in the photos! LOVE your home!
That sounds like so much fun..if only I knew any couples.
Now that sounds like a lovely evening and Maggiano's is just good!
p.s. So often I think if you lived here, you and paige would be best of friends because you two seem to have so much in common in taste and funny and decor. Now I see you were a nurse in pediatrics too of sorts. The commonalities of you two is uncanny like you are sisters from another mother. Just sayin it's a sweet blessing to you both that you found one another in blogland.
I just discovered your blog from Meredith @ http://sweettfamily.blogspot.com/
I LOVE the idea of a dinner club! So glad you decided to start one! Sorry your little one has the Chicken Pox :(
Oh I so wish there were one near us. What a wonderful venture!
That's an idea I had never heard of it before. What a wonderful idea I'll have to check into that. I'm glad you had fun.
