Sunday dinner club...

I've always wanted to have a dinner club....

i've read about them......

i've heard friends talk about them....

but i've never hosted one nor have i ever been to one.

All that changed tonight.

apparently...the deal is...

one couple hosts an evening....

with the hosting couple doing everything....

from wine to dinner...to dessert.

I suppose you could have your children there...but in my case...

i guess i just needed a break...

you see..Mason has been home most of the week with Chicken pox.

{yes...he was vaccinated}

Did you know that kids need 2 vaccines? .....

uggh.

well....the doctor never double checked his records....so here we were on Tuesday...and Mason came in

from playing outside...complaining that he was itchy.

grrr.

so i told him......well....that's what you get for rolling around in those worm infested leaves.

Holy crepes { i totally could have said something else..}........

he took his shirt off and blisters all over his torso....

and of course....me being a *retired nurse* and all...just had to look at those puppies

to determine that indeed....it was

chicken pox.

where was i????

oh yes....

dinner club..

I needed a little bitty break from the kid....

so i got my sitter to take the kids to Chucky {vomit} cheese.

The original plan was for me to spend the day cooking a lovely meal for the 5 couples i invited over for dinner....

but as luck would have it....

my cleaners canceled on friday....which meant i had to spend the morning cleaning...

thus....

no time for cooking.

don't get me wrong.....dinner was still fabulous.

we dined on eggplant Parmesan....fresh field greens with Gorgonzola ....linguine with pesto and pine nuts...

and finished dinner off with some fabulous french petite desserts.

I just want to say a big thank you to Maggiano's for totally taking my call at last minute and pulling the order together for me.

eeek.

Back to the idea of Sunday evening dinner club.......

one sunday a month...a couple hosts it...and does everything....

then it switches to another couple the next month.

We get a night out....only paying for a sitter....and have a fabulous time mingling with friends.

That my friends is what a Sunday evening dinner club is all about.

xo

* oh yes...the retired nurse statement. I indeed used to work in pediatrics...and have not in about 7 years. I was the one in the office that gave your children their vaccines....and froze their warts off...and started their i.v.'s...

yup....that was me...

and i totally remember you moms giving me the evil eye as i did these things...

oh yes i do....

I love that I just learned that you were a nurse!! That is AWESOME!

Dinner clubs are really fun. We have a few, but kids are always around. I guess I never thought about sending them away. I'm going to do that...yes indeed.

Your home is beautiful I could almost smell the feast. I just started a pared down version with my 2 adult children...we meet at someones house every Sunday night alternating houses....now that they've flown the coup and family dinners are scarce this is a great way to reconnect.....love it!

I love the idea of a dinner club but I think it would be fun to do the traveling kind where you go to a different house for each course.

My husband and I are in a loosely knit supper club with 3 other couples. Everyone brings their own wine, one couple. Everyone brings their own wine, one couple appitizers, one couple salad, one couple dessert and the hosting couple the main entree. We meet about every 6-8 weeks and have a blast. Our last dinner was Julia inspired. Everyone made a Julia Childs dish and us gals all wore our pearls (like in the movie!).
The host sounds like they have a lot to do in your group but hey if that works that's terrific.

Hey my birthday-girl friend...looks like you had a lovely dinner after all.

And hey, I didn't know you did the whole nurse thing. Learn something new about you everyday! ;-)

The dinner club sounds like a lot of fun! Chickenpox, not so much. Both my daughters have been vaccinated, but for the life of me, I can't remember if they rec'd 2 shots. Eeek! I better go check...

We just hosted our "Supper Club" this past weekend. We have 5 couples, but the host couple only chooses a theme and makes the main course. Each couple then brings something. Not too much work for anyone.
Our theme Saturday was "Comfort Food".

I'm glad he's feeling better now. I'm sure that trip to CC was great for the kids. When we go, I scrub them raw afterwards. lol
I'm not such a big fan of that vax, my son didn't get it at all and my girls only had one. Oops, probably shouldn't have said that to a nurse. Are we still friends?
Anyway, your dinner sounds lovely. We're thinking of doing a progressive dinner on our block, where we would switch houses for each course. I think it would be fun.

Now that sounds like a lovely evening and Maggiano's is just good!

p.s. So often I think if you lived here, you and paige would be best of friends because you two seem to have so much in common in taste and funny and decor. Now I see you were a nurse in pediatrics too of sorts. The commonalities of you two is uncanny like you are sisters from another mother. Just sayin it's a sweet blessing to you both that you found one another in blogland.
