Turning five....

My baby boy turned five yesterday....

and as much as i hate to admit it...

my baby is really....

not a baby anymore.

Five means big things....
Kindergarten.

Kindergarten is not a big deal.....

kindergarten is only 2.5 hours...

kindergarten is the same amount of time as preschool.

Riding the bus....

riding the bus to and from Kindergarten..

only because it adds some much needed time

to that already shortened schedule.

Not wiping his butt for him.

Huge deal....

Huge.

It's the rule....you turn five...and mom is done helping wipe.

{is that to much info?}

Sleeping thru the night.

As much as i LOVED the baby stage..

love.love.love

i do not miss the sleepless nights.

I love my sleep.

Waking up on your birthday in our home

means one thing.

Donuts for breakfast.

I hate donuts so much that i had two of them.

One for me and i ate one for you....

because i'm that type of girl.

After we filled our bodies with sugar...

i dropped off the kids at school.

I brought in HUGE cupcakes to Fin's class....

which in turn means ...

MORE SUGAR

After school....we headed to his favorite restaurant...

for lunch.

He invited his besties...Frankie {the italian}, and Lou {the spaniard}...

who always look so cute sitting next to my ...

blond haired...

blue eyed...

pale skinned...

boy who still needs his butt wiped.

After lunch...

the kids decided to have a root beer float...

and

more cupcakes.

{at this point i'm still sick for the cupcake i had for you this morning}

We did a little jiggy...

danced a little dance...

sang a little song.

Then at the end of the day we had our little family party....

which included

push-ups for dinner.

I'm not talking about the exercise either...

i'm talking about the ice cream kind.

I was really doing so well....

but not today.

All because i had an extra donut for you.

It's a new day.

I have a five year old.

A gorgeous, well mannered, super smart, violin playing, third grader level reader,

boy who might just skip kindergarten and head straight to high school.

{alright...only the first two things are correct}

I don't have a baby anymore....

I have a five year old.
....................
{psst. I'm still over here answering your Q's}

Wonderful post! I didn't like the baby stage (hence the only child) but I loved it from age 3 and up.

Thanks for all the donuts & cupcakes for us;) That was funny.

Beautiful words and pictures! This post really resonated with me, because my oldest (a boy too) is turning five next week (and I love donuts and cupcakes too...). Happy Birthday boys! I love the baby stage, but isn't it so wonderful to see those babies grow and develop their own personalities and talents? Off to new adventures!

Have a lovely day.

Sweet post...little boys are so wonderful (even when they are 8 and still need a little help in the bathroom!) :) Better to be safe than sorry is all I say!

Happy #5 to sweet Fin! About that butt thing...I thought 6 was the magic age we stopped helping with that~ guess I'm behind (no pun intended) by a whole year. :)
Happy weekend Kasey.

Happy Birthday to that adorable Birthday Boy!
I smiled...like BIG...all the way through this!
One reason being...
I was a kindergarten teacher for 11years...oh how I loved my mommies...and do KNOW what turning FIVE means to a mommy.
So hard to let go in so many respects...but for some reason...well for many reasons actually...I do believe I made it a weeee bit easier for them to let go. ;o)
I really wanted to see one of those BIG cupcakes....and I do appreciate you taking on the calories for me today...oh how sweet I know those cupcakes are!
And about that HIP Anthropologie look you got going on there...with the boots...KILLER!!! ;o)
Oh...and about the WIPING...well I don't even wanna know HOW LONG my sissy Melly wiped my nephew Griffin's bottom!!!
Let's see...Griffin's in the 7th grade now...and seems to me...last summer...when we were all "at the country" (parent's farm)...seems to me I did hear him YELL that famous "MOM!!!!!!" call! ha...haha!
Oh how funny!
Happy Day Kasey!
What a cute cute MOM you are...and your children...
well I could just go on and on!!!!

Five is a big one, isn't it? It's when I finanlly stopped calling my boys "babies" too. And we had the same bottom issues! But kindergarten here is 7 hrs!!! My sons went from being home with mom all day long (never went to daycare) to 7 entire hrs. away from home and mama! It was a big deal. Very hard. Your 5 year old sure is a handsome little guy! I'm glad he doesn't have to go for more than 2.5 hrs.

If that bottom photo is from his birthday then he still looks pretty little to me... I didn't LOVE the baby stage but do love them as they get older. That being said, I am sad Finn Henry is growing up so quickly. I tend to not feed him to keep him nice and small, seeing as he is my last baby...

love the post! your little 5 year old is about the cutest thing I've ever seen!!! Oh how I hate it when they grow up though.....my baby is almost 10 and ....... well she's almost 10....:( But I do love each stage, just miss the little hands...little feet....little noses and little hugs...
You are as cute as can be too btw! love your style!

The new banner is so pretty pretty pretty. And so are you in the hat. You like to be photographed in hats as much as I. Loved this post and the photos. My boy will turn 5 in October but he started Junior Kindergarten this year and I'm still wiping his butt...most of the time. He also poops completely naked so he AVOIDS pooping at Kindergarten and therefore I am usually around...to wipe that butt. Im hoping at 5 I will no longer be doing that AND he will no longer be pooping completely naked! Let's hope.

Awwww.....such a sweet day for the birthday boy! Fin is an absolute cutie-pie five year old. It makes you wonder. Why do they grow quickly anyway?? Gosh to keep them little (past the wiping stage anyway) for just a while longer would be dreamy. My baby is 11 (eek!!!) and I feel like his 5th birthday was just about a year or so ago! He will always be my baby (much to his chagrin when I say the word out in public but shhhh...secretly he loves it). And my oldest is 14 and he'll always be my sunshine...which I just recently posted about him being my "little" boy. Ah, time does fly. Enjoy your cuties...you seem to have an incredibly fun family life! Thanks for sharing his day with us, and for the doughnut too - yummy!!

What a cutie Fin is! I appreciate you eating that donut for me...I can use that as leverage for my cravings all day. "but Kasey already ate one for me!". Good stuff. Also, this may be {tmi} but I feel so much better that you still have to "wipe his butt". I still have to wipe my 4 yr. olds and now I don't feel so alone in my plight.

Kristin @ My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia said...

Gosh, he is adorable! How fast they grow, how does that happen? You seem like such a wonderful mom that loves her kids so much, that's what is so important!

I wanted to thank you for the ikea curtain idea. I went and purchased a few and just finished up my french guestroom, thanks for the idea :)
Take care-

Happy Birthday to your sweet boy! My son turned 5 in November and it was hard for me. I swear just yesterday he was 2 and a half curled up in my lap saying, "wuv you mommy". I fear the bus this fall...big time.

"Not wiping his butt for him" Best line I've read all day...seriously. This is why I love blogging hahaha

My brother and I are 11 years apart...so I vivdly remember all those times spent wiping. And sometimes the squirming led to missing the paper, but not my hands. And then I freaked out and said I never wanted kids, but reading this reminds me of just how much I do! :)

Hi Kasey,
I know what it's like for your little one's to be getting older. My babies will be 2 and 6 in the next few weeks. Where did all of that time go? Your son is lucky he only has to go to kindergarten for a couple of hours. My son started kindergarten this year and goes all day from 8:55-3:25. It's a new thing the school did this year. I hate it because when he comes home the poor thing is just exhausted!! And he is not a fun little camper!! I know when he first started I felt lost, but I have my little one to keep me busy. I don't know what I'll do when they are both off to school!
Also, thank you so much for e-mailing me with the name of your wall paint, I really appreciated it!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Melinda

Oh heavens! You made me laugh hysterically again! AGAIN! Talk about Serendipity - I just happened upon "French Larkspur" and, of course, after all of that laughter (and after I entered the impossible giveaway) I blithely jumped eagerly over here. Very happy I am too! I am going to go and immediately add both of you to my favorite links on my brand new baby blog.

Your son is gorgeous! Happy Birthday! (and I would thank all of you - my three sons included - to stop eating my donuts!) Thanks!

Love, Katy Noelle

Okay, I secretly admit that I miss being needed in the loo. It meant I wouldn't be needed any other areas too---but OH! Turning five was an awesome thing in our house. Looks like it is for you too.

It's so funny to me---your kids look like they're straight out of some California catalogue...love the toe-heads. You have BE-u-ti-ful kids, my friend!

Can't believe my baby is 10 today. Where does it go? Seriously...I want to know. Every stage is a gift.

Have a GREAT weekend---

Oh Happy Birthday Fin! The big 5 huh? I remember when my boy turned 5 (wasn't it just yesterday) I cried. He turned 14 in December (I cried) some things never change! Well, actually the needing help wiping thing did (thank God) that would be a little awkward now! Enjoy your little guy at 5, what a cool age!
